Butters wagon
Bought a Legacy with a dead cylinder from a guy at work a while back for $250, took the timing belt off and put it back on in time and had a perfectly running 400K mile 1994 Legacy wagon dubbed the Butters Wagon for the guy I bought it from. So tonight at work we were slow and I had been stocking up...

That was my thoughts also, when the head gaskets were done, did you check the block for warpage or cracks also?evolutionmovement wrote:I know you wrote that you replaced them, but that sounds more like a head gasket than anything.

Re: Im back in a Legacy.........eh, kinda.
Well, today I pulled the fuel injector and took it to Beaverton Napa and had them clean and flow test the injector, they didn't give me a flow chart or anything but it looks much better. I installed it and drove the car up and down the road and no stalling, I bench bleed the master cylinder last wee...

Re: steering rack confusion?!?!?!
It isn't hard, you just have to be very accurate, its the same thing with cam seals, if they get a little crooked they leak, but the power steering rack is under a lot more pressure. We always started the car with the y pipe off for about 30 seconds after putting the rack in just in case it did leak...

Re: steering rack confusion?!?!?!
The rack will leak from the boots if the seal is leaking which is where they normally leak from, I have seen the boots balloon up from fluid pumping into them, but normally no, if your boots are just torn it wont leak fluid from just that. As a side note, make sure you get those seals in perfect if ...

I think that you have to drill out the coolant passages some more on the 2.2 heads, but yes everything bolts up.

Re: Spins, but doesn't start...
I always just drive the bolts in with my impact, usually I get new bolts but you dont have to, just put a dab of lock tite on there and you will be good, I only use a torque wrench on head bolts and lug nuts the rest just get the "good-n-tight" treatment.

Re: Spins, but doesn't start...
Wait, I just read it again. If the engine is not turning over at all then it's obvious the flex plate broke or something down the line from there like the starter isn't seating into the ring gear teeth. I have to agree, but I am somewhat confused as he stated that he can see "it" turn whe...

Re: Spins, but doesn't start...
What are you turning by hand? Is it the crank bolt? That wont matter as the engine is what gives the resistance, I would suggest just pulling one of the side covers off the t-belt cover, it will just be 3 10 mm bolts holding it on and shouldnt take more than 5 min. then check that way if the belt is...

Re: Gear Heads help me out...
So to the OP, it kinda sounds like it is the starter solenoid getting heat soaked and not allowing the starter to engage, I had a big problem with this same thing in a 67 Impala that I used to own. Hitting the starter with a hammer usually would allow it to start again, otherwise I would have to let...

Re: Im back in a Legacy.........eh, kinda.
So I put the line on last night and put in 6 1/2 quarts of ATF and it moves! I took it for a short drive down the road and whenever I start to get into boost the car stalls, the check engine light came on and it is a code 14 for the #1 injector. Also the drivers side front axle knocks pretty good bu...

Sounds to me like either the battery is bad or needs to be charged, just take it in to an autoparts store and get them to check it.

Re: repairing crankshaft keyway/pulley & re-setting timing
So to get the timing belt off you need to line up all three marks, one on each cam gear and one on the crank gear, they should all point up and the keyway on the crank is going to be pointing down. If you are using the same timing belt, then you are going to want to use some paint or a marker or som...

Re: repairing crankshaft keyway/pulley & re-setting timing
I have never done it but I have heard of people using JB weld to hold the key in and it working just fine. I think you will be good as long as like the post above says you make sure that the area around is smooth to get the gear back on fine.

Re: Radiator fan only coming on in d check mode
Which fan comes on with the D check? Is it both or just the passenger side? The Driver's side fan should come on first with normal usage but both with D check if IIRC, also typically you will not find oil in the coolant with headgasket issues, it will be HC in the coolant, when running the car right...

Re: Radiator end tank cracked!
It is a common problem with most cars actually, It isn't hard to change the radiator, all you will need is either a 10 mm wrench or socket and ratchet and a 12mm. If your car is a manual trans it makes it even easier, unbolt the two 12mm bolts from the radiator support, take the hoses off and unplug...

Re: need help with head gasket....
The newer timing belt tensioners on the 2.5 will almost always need to be changed, you can look and it will be dry but there is marks all around the base where it has been slapping. You will put it on and start it up and the car will knock real loud when cold. Did your water pump seize or leak, I ha...
