Drain the oil and see whats going on yourself before you change the diff.
It can't hurt to check, and I'd rather see metal shavings myself before taking a mechanic's word.

Re: Swapped Head Gaskets, still wanting to overheat.
Well The thermostat I pulled had the Subaru parts logo, the circle with the 'boomerang' in it or whatever that's called.
I still have it.
MY HG was definitely blown, I had oil in my coolant. So I did not do it in vain.

I boiled the A/Z one and it opened before boiling.Legacy777 wrote: Typically the Subaru thermostat is deeper than the aftermarket ones and have a different response (opening/closing) to temperature.
I'll get a side-by-side photo when I pull the stat.

Re: Swapped Head Gaskets, still wanting to overheat.
Except that I'm using a sh***y VatoZone Thermostat and it works fine... The Legacy radiator was clogged. Swapped in a OEM replacement GC rad and it's A-OK If I have problems with it, I'm going to swap in my old Subaru thermostat which I know now was not the problem. I have a pure water mix ATM and n...

Re: Swapped Head Gaskets, still wanting to overheat.
Put the thermostat back in when I swapped radiators today and voila - fixed.
I wish I would have done this about two months ago, but hey - now I have fresh head gaskets.
Also installed a Group N tranny mount and kartboy polyurethane shifter bushings tonight. It feels like a new car!!

Re: Swapped Head Gaskets, still wanting to overheat.
Yaaay. I bought a new radiator yesterday. Coming in today.
Thing is - I don't think that's it. With the thermostat out, the lower hose is warm after the car finally heats up. I'm goign to buy a Subaru thermostat, if that doesn't fix it, I'll install my new radiator.

Re: Swapped Head Gaskets, still wanting to overheat.
Yikes.
Crankcase oil is fine, and there's no oil in the coolant.
I guess I could do a compression test. I really think this is a coolant system issue, it's the only way I can explain the cold water in a car that's overheating.

Swapped Head Gaskets, still wanting to overheat.
My Subaru [EJ22 phase 1 engine] started overheating a few months ago, so I pulled the thermostat to 'band-aid' the problem. Despite running cold most of the time, it worked well until I got milkshake in my coolant. Pulled the engine, installed new head gaskets and a new thermostat. Still trying to o...

WTB Timing Belt tensioner pulley actuator
I'm going to try and get creative with the current one, but was wanting to see if anyone had a spare. I'm looking for the actuator [it's in the upper left corner of the picture] http://www.porcupine73.com/pics/timing/LHcamseal1.jpg I had the tensioner off, compressed it slowly in a vice, and put a p...

Thanks for the quick response, that's fantastic.beatersubi wrote:Yes, they'll interchange.
When it doubt, throttle out.
I know I'm new to getting sideways in the dirt. That's why I'm driving around an Impreza shell I got for free with a Legacy drivetrain I bought for $400.

Had an "Off" tonight. LCA interchange Question
I fixed my cooling issue [98% sure] by removing the thermostat completely. no fluid loss and no overheating. The bad part is I was testing this out by practising for Sunday, I hit the brakes a bit hard when I should have been on the throttle, and I ended up in a ditch. Bent the right LCA, comme Nate...

Re: Turn signal light help; OBD1 swap into 96 OBS
Love it - I've been downloading/perusing those this afternoon. I actually found it after you posted it. So as long as I get a 91 Legacy Hazard switch, it should work? [I misplaced mine >_<]

Turn signal light help; OBD1 swap into 96 OBS
Hey guys. Just coming over to search for some wiring diagrams. MY 96 Outback Sport Impreza is running/driving successfully with my OBD1 harness/phase1 EJ22/5MT from my 91 donor Legacy. Still trying to get the tach to show up on the Legacy dash [I'm assuming I don't have somethign plugged in] That is...

Thank you cj91legss!!
Last night I was working on my 91 Legacy parts car and ran into some issues. I found out I would need new axles for my 5MT diff. I found CJ's listing after a quick search and PM'd him. CJ had replied to me by the time I woke up this morning, and after some back and forth, he got the axles in the mai...
