Re: Deal? Or no Deal?
Ya, Ive decided to pass on it. The kid was just really sketchy on a lot of the things wrong with the car. Leading me to believe theres a few things hes not tellig me. I was planing on either getting the gaskets done, or dropping in the 22. either way, I would have put a 5 spd in it.

Deal? Or no Deal?
So I met up with this kid with a 97 Legacy Gt with 185k on it. He was asking $2500 for it and I talked him down to $1700. BECAUSE, this is what I found wrong with it from the test drive and his past knowledge. It has sat for the last 2 years, until last month he started driving it because his other ...

Re: Stuck in first???
Okay, so I picked it up this morning. The shifter will select gears, but the car is still stuck in a higher gear. Like you can put it in first, but obviously its not in first. and you can put it in reverse, but again, the transmission isnt really in reverse. The thing I noticed though is that you ca...

Re: Stuck in first???
thats what I was thinking... Well at least I know what Im doing for the weekend! shouldnt be too hard, the tranny Im picking up has low miles and comes out of a 93 sedan, so the final drive is the same, he has a "newer" clutch and TO bearing, but Im just picking a new one up anyways. Also ...

Stuck in first???
Im picking up a 92 n/a sedan on saturday with a "transmission" issue. Ive read up on a lot of posts about this, but none seem to fit this issue. The owner says that he went to leave for work, started the car and drove out of his driveway. Not 50ft out of the driveway he went to shift into ...

Stock Exhaust From an Outback Sport? I think NOT
I picked this up at the junkyard today, as my legacy broke the weld going into the muffler and cant be fixed. Bought it for $45, and got the whole cat back system. I took a look under the outback in the salvage yard, and to my amazement, I saw this. all shiny and sweet looking. I pulled it off as it...

Re: Mysterious Over Heating
I switched out for a subaru thermostat which was $23, and the gasket was $3 Flushed the system again, and then made the 900 mile trip back home for the 4th. NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER I believe that the t-stat was to blame, and in comparison the Subaru t-stat had an element almost twice the size of the ...

Re: Mysterious Over Heating
No, I understand what you are saying, I plan on taking my time with it, as I want to learn as much as I can. The only reason I am picking it up, is because for $500 the guy will sell me all the above and then some. So unless Im mistaken its a killer deal. I can generally find my way around a wiring ...

Re: Mysterious Over Heating
picking up a 04 WRX wiring harness, ecu, heads, intake manifold, struts, springs, calipers, master cylinder, steering rack, and possibly a few others. The seats are in good shape, and I was thinking about the dash, but that seems like too big of a project at the moment. I want to start off slow. what...

Re: Mysterious Over Heating
Sweet! Thanks for the info, I really hope that it will fix the problem, I love the wagon, but it would just become a parts car until I had the time to do the HG. Ive been reading tons of build threads on the SS, and I think I will start one when I get out of school in a few weeks. That way I have a ...

For your viewing pleasure. My new (to me) 91 SS. 250k, tmic, wrx turbo back exhaust, wrx hood, kn filter, and short throw shifter. I personally dont like the hood scoop, but Im stuck with it for the time being..... What do you guys think this is worth? Runs flawless, but has pretty high miles, and i...

Re: Mysterious Over Heating
I got the car to overheat again, tonight. This time, I had the radio off, and the temp gauge was rising slowly to the highest point. Suddenly I heard a very loud "click" and the temp gauge went back to normal in about 5 seconds. The car was fine the rest of the night. I popped the hood aft...

Re: Mysterious Over Heating
The thermostat isnt the genuine subaru part, but it does have the jiggle screw. I just dont understand why it happens every once in a blue moon. I mean if it were happening constantly that would be more definitive. Ill check on the water pump/timing belt asap. The car runs flawless, gets great gas m...

Mysterious Over Heating
I picked up a 93 legacy na wagon a while back with an "electrical issue" Turned out it was just a cut wire leading to the fuse box... go figure. Anyway, I fixed the wire, checked fluids, new tranny filter gasket and fluid, and iridium spark plugs. The next day, I drove the 980 miles to ida...
