Sound words of advice, I was hoping that would be the response. I very fond of the 1997-99 GT wagons body style, I don't know all that much about the quality of the vehicle. but of course I trust Subaru to make a good car and I would do my research before buying one. Hey guys, I have a little bit of Subaru dilemma. I’m the proud owner of 1991 auto legacy wagon with 175k miles. Recently problems have arisen. The exhaust smells really rich and it seems to be burning gas (losing a mile or two to the gallon recently). furthermore, the transmission has begun to slip....

turns out i wont be replacing my torque converter, the tranny is starting to go. Probably will be replacing or having rebuilt in 30k miles or so! any thoughts?

I think I need to replace my torque converter. Tranny been getting stuck in 4. Will know more tomorrow, but I'm curious if upgrading to a lighter fly wheel while I've got access to t would make much difference in power/engine efficiency? What do you guys think?
