I have a 91 legacy and my turn signals won't work, however the hazard lights do work. any ideas?

(indicator lights don't turn on or anything)

I think I'd suspect the hazard light switch first. I believe the hazard light switch is required to complete the turn signal circuit when the hazards aren't on themselves.

vrg3, you're right. I let my hazard light switch unplugged one day while messing around behind the dash, and didn't have any turn signals.

But if the hazard lights are working, then it sounds like the switch is plugged in. Hmm...

Okay, I've got my wiring manual now. There aren't any relays.

First thing to check -- is fuse 1 in the passenger compartment fuse box okay? It supplies power for the reverse lights and turn signals. Hazards go through fuse 22 in the underhood fuse box.

And you are testing the turn signals with the ignition on, right?

Failing those two things, you'll have to test the hazard switch and the turn signal switch separately off the car to find out which one is faulty.

To bump an old-ass thread, I have a question for my friend renmaxi.

His 91 turbo will blow a fuse when he tries to use his turn signals. Sometimes it happens immediately, sometimes it takes a while. We're both electrical idiots, so are there any suggestions as to where to look for a problem? Reading this thread, I might ask him about his hazards...

I had something like this in my BC. Whenever I Would turn the lights on the interior lights (guages, HVAC, radio) would crap out.

Turned out the illumination wire that goes to the radio had been cut once and the idiot just taped it back togheter. Tape came off and would short out and blow the fuse. But it didn't happen all the time so it was driving me nuts.
