Temp sensor problem

Post by huck369 »

I'm having a problem on the Impreza I fixe up for my daughter...

It's a 95 Impreza L AWD Manual EJ18 OBDI car

I get a "Check Engine" light when the car is warming up, when the needle is almost to normal operating temp, once it's fully warmed up it goes off....but over a period of a couple weeks it stays on longer till it stays on continually, at this point if I shut it off, it doesn't want to start (usually will if I hold the pedal to the floor),

If I clear the codes, it starts right up and runs fine.

The only code it's setting is "21" which is the Temp Sensor, I've replaced it with a used one I had that was fine when pulled from the motor it was on, but it still does the same thing.

The connection looks fine.

Any ideals, as I'm out of them :?

Thanks

Have you put an ohmmeter on the sensor to see what its resistance is?

Have you checked the wiring going to the ECU from the sensor connector?

I'd suggest buying a new sensor. They're like 20 bucks. www.subaruparts.com or www.1stsubaru.com
