Expected HP gains from awic?
Just curious, I've got a JDM AWIC sitting in my garage as we speak, wondering what I should expect. I'm imagining it'll be a noticable difference, and that's all I'm really hoping for. If it wasn't, I'd be heated that I spent $150 for no noticable gain

Your car will run safer and will be able to safely run more timing. The peace of mind + extra horsepower is worth the $150.
With stock exhaust... don't expect too much. But it will run much better on a hot day.

I'm not sure what gains you will get stock. An MBC to get boost up will help. I think the DP is the biggest thing in the way of power.
I did mine at the same time as my hybrid turbo but I bet it will pull a lot harder at the top than stock if the cat isn't crapped out too much.

You'll get a pressure drop, most likely. But if you up the boost back to stock manifold pressures, you should see a few gains.

The OEM air/water intercooler is one of the least restrictive intercoolers you can put on this car. You might even be able to keep stock boost control with it.
I think you'll see some small quantifiable performance gains, particularly at high engine speeds. I couldn't guess at a number though.

I was told that the AWIC radiator won't fit the US bumper. The tabs on the back have to be cut off and welded flat or pounded flat. I didn't get the radiator so I don't know if it's true or not.
If I was going to do it over I would have used a large tranny cooler that would fill the opening in the lower bumper skin.

When you're off boost, the air passing through the inside of the intercooler does cool the core back down some.
But I think -K- was just saying he didn't get the OEM radiator with his AWIC.

I slid the small oil cooler I am using down in front of the radiator behind the grill and zip tied it in place.

The AWIC flows better than the least restrictive STi topmount ever made, I've seen a write up on it. Boost loss will be minimal and the ecu should compensate for it.
Yes, dp is a must. Just so you know... once you do that, Laurel, you sorta can't stop doing stuff. Its like a disease. You won't stop until your car is faster than Art's.

Totally, haha.
I didn't know that the AWIC flowed that well. That's interesting....

BTW, Laurel's got a WRX midpipe and an STi axleback on there, already.

Don't you have an Airbag, ABS, and a Passive restraint system. What else do you need?

That's amazing. Even better than the JDM v8?Brat4by4 wrote:The AWIC flows better than the least restrictive STi topmount ever made, I've seen a write up on it. Boost loss will be minimal and the ecu should compensate for it.
