intake space problems solved with 4 inch carb filter.

Post by azn2nr »

i was down at autozone when i came across a little filter for a carb that was just thick enough. i took it home and put in on along with some foam unifilter that i have been using thats so restrictive. bolted it down with a doughnut flange and now im back to hittin 14psi. though not in first gear. hopefully soon when i get my 16g put in.

You probably won't hit in in 1st when you get the 16G either.

Your intake setup is hurting more than not. You'd be better off running a semi-fine wire mesh over the MAF instead. For your own sake, I wish you would reconsider your intake routing as it's been suggested by most of us. You are robbing so much potential from the setup with a poorly thought out and developed intake assembly.

actualy 14 is exactly where i was at when i was just running a fine wire mesh aka filterless.

are you getting full boost in first?

i happen to think it works as well as my previous setup before the ic pipes went in. a well thought out system would cost too much money and could prove to do more harm than good being it so close to the ground where it can be exposed to water. that and the intake path would be too long.

I get full boost in 1st, but I have the stock airbox.

I dunno about it costing to much money and whatnot, but I guess that's coming from the vision I have in my mind for my setup, and how DZX didn't have this problem.

So you spent hundreds of dollars on the intercooling setup but can't spare at the most 100 more? Halfassery isn't a good thing.

Also how would the intake path be too long?

Yea, the intake path being to long is a myth.

I doubt you could make it any longer than stock with the snorkus.

if i ran the pipes the same way as dzx i wouldnt have the problem but it didnt go that way.

to be able to put a filter anywhere it would be down under the abs if you can imagaine how far that is. that and i would need a new maf housing. that alone is 100 bucks used. as long as im back to where i was without a filter but having one on the car making the air cleaner id say the problem is solved. im just posting to show how i took care of the lack of space given to help thoes who may run into the problem. '
i realize that most of you are a fan of teh stock air box and think that anything else is inherently bad but as long as the air is clean and performance isnt suffering as much as it would otherwise than im fine with it.

Tarmac has two intakes for the turbo legacy. One is 150 and stays in the engine bay and the other is 200 and goes into the fender. I have no idea how good they are tho. I've been wondering lately if maybe the turbo not spooling all the way is an uppipe leak but i'm too busy to look at it right now. It could also be that the airbox may not be getting very much air since i removed the snorkus and didn't put anything in its place to direct the air into the box.
