Exhaust manifold studs

Post by magicmike »

I bought new studs for when I install my new header this week. Does anyone know if you need to use locktight or perhaps antisieze on them before installing them into the block?

Thanks, Mike

Although I can't claim to have any real knowledge or experience, I would think some sparkplug anti-seize compound would be just what the Dr ordered. At least if you ever might want to remove them and...hmm...maybe sell them to me! :P
Out of curiosity, what kind of headers did you get? Where do you get them? I havn't found any for the turbos yet...
Thanks

Well, I put the studs in last night and actually got a little scared. They seemed to go on and on and never really hit bottom. When I compared the the old studs it looked like the new ones were going in much deeper. I eventually set the torque wrench to 20 lbs and left it at that. I still have enough room with the new header on so I'll have pics soon.

exhaust studs

hey mike it sounds like u did it right since u just need enuff threads left for the gaskets, flanges, washers and nuts..there is only about .25" of the threads beyond the nut on all 3 of our subies.
