Why you gonna do that?

Replace all seals, since it'll be out, and Group N engine and tranny mounts.

Turns out the engine was fine I guess. I was taking it to my uncles house so i could work on it the next couple of days with a friend following me and the stupid car quit smoking, even stomping on the gas wouldnt make it smoke anymore. Earlier, I had pulled the plugs and wires and after the car warmed up, it would smoke a ton.

So anyway, I let my friend George drive the subaru to a town named longmont which is about 20 mins away from boulder so i could return the Subaru I borrowed from my Aunt there.

Long story short, he was racing a honda and then a bmw and blew one of the coolant lines and there was smoke everywhere. I looked for a long time and couldn't find the place where it was all leaking out from. And soo about 2 hrs after it happened we called a tow truck and it showed up about an hr later. Now its 2:20 am and looks like im gonna be keeping the new subaru for tonight after all. Hopefully my Roo isn't ruined.

If it's black smoke then you might be running a bit rich.

It was blue smoke but its entirely gone now.

I didn't get to sleep last night cause i had to be at work at 3:15. Usually i take a short nap so i can deal with working nights but didnt have the time last night. I didn't sleep very well this morning tho when all I could think about was walking and riding the bus

However the coolant line that blew or came off is somewhere under the turbo and I cant get to it without taking the turbo off. So i'm gonna have the car towed this weekend using my uncle's truck and trailer and have them fix the leak when they replace the turbo. Looks like im going to be getting familiar with the bus system for a few days

theres only 1 coolant line under the turbo and its pretty easy to get to. i blew that line on sunday and it took me about 15 mins. if the line is completly off and dangleing the left over little is directly under the oil source line comming off the block. youll need to turn the spring clamp around so you can get to it with a pair of pliers and cut it off with a utility knife if you cant pry it off with a screwdriver. its 1/2 inch heater hose. about a foot should do.

oh and since your getting the new turbo this weekend care to share what its gonna be.

Fine lol. I'm going to a garrett t3/t4 setup for now. A new intake manifold and 550 cc injectors are going in and my electronics (s-afc2 and the ITC) are both being installed.

Thanks for the advice. If it wasn't 20 miles away and going into the shop on saturday I would have another look at it.

Pics of the manifold? I remember you talking about that before.

Yea, I blew that line too. The weekend I pulled my turbo 5 or 6 times, it finally wore to much and cut.

I just replaced it with regular heater hose, and it works fine.

The oil return line off the turbo, now THAT is a bitch.

info on the manifold please.

a guy in salt lake is building custom garret kits that are cheap in price compared to others like the kingpin kit. a kit he built with a t3/to4e in my friends car is stupid fast. it will be sweet to see what kind of numbers you put down with that.

i want to try to build my own kit for a garret setup but i got to build a jig first.

I'll take pictures after its all done. The manifold apparently won't fit with the turbo in the stock location because the turbo manifold has a dent for the 90 degree inlet and the flat manifold doesnt. Same with the fuel rails, they wont fit with a stock location turbo either or so I'm told. I haven't had a look at either yet.

So it looks like my friend missed a shift and threw a rod through the top of the engine casing, there is a large hole right underneath the intake manifold, behind where the alternator sits, you can see the crank through it. Looks like the Ru is gonna be down for a while.

It sucks, I'm not particularly happy about it, but hopefully everything will still go as planned with the exception of having to sell my prodrive rims for a new block.

Why do YOU need to sell YOUR rims for a block YOUR FRIEND FUCKED UP?

Tell your "Friend" to foot the bill. Hold his testicles hostages.

THIS is why I do not allow anyone to drive my car. If I even thought that a "friend" would try to race my car, I'd castrate him.

He's offered to pay for it, I might have him pay half.

And I'm still not sure exactly what happened. He said he was in fifth gear and forgot that the mbc doesnt limit boost in fifth and just stepped down on it. Then there was the feeling of a fuel cut and a lot of smoke and the engine died. I'll tow the car up to my uncle's house and take it apart and see what went wrong with it.

WTF dude? Why do you want to pay half?

I would be like "well, looks like you fucked up." And when asked if I was mad... "nope, not like I am paying to fix it."

Mine doesn't because i have it tightened down to get the most out of first and second gear. I think i have an uppipe leak or maybe something else in the engine was messed up because i was only getting about 12 or 13 psi in first and i could get about 15 in second then it would start to fall off a little.

I wish i had the money for forged internals now, I would have to put some forged pistons and crank in there with some nice new rods and other shit, alas, I'm a poor college student, I would maybe ask him to pay for it but I'm still not certain what happened and dont really know if I ever will know. I was behind him when the engine messed up but i couldnt really tell. Hopefully tearing the engine apart will provide more information.

He was driving, and didn't think "hey, 14... 15... 19psi" in 5th, and blew the motor. That's not your fault.

Have him buy you a new motor, and you use the money you WOULD have used for the new motor to buy forged internals.

The flat manifold is from a n/a legacy between 97-99 however only certain ones came with it and its pretty rare apparently.
