CEL died on me

Post by Gotta Jibboo »

Well, I went to start my car the other day, and my check engine light didn't turn on when the key was at "on." So I guess I blew the bulb.

I really don't feel like tearing apart my dashboard just for my CEL, so is there a pin on the ECU or something that I can just hook a little bulb up to so that I can know if I'm throwing any codes?

Fortunately the car's running great, but it'd be good to have my CEL, just in case (*crosses fingers and prays that the soobie gods are nice in the future*).

Thanks!

Yup. Just connect a small light bulb between an ignition-switched +12v source and the ECU's "MIL" pin:

It's really not that hard to get to the bulbs...

well what exactly does it entail? It seems like it would be a royal pain in the arse to get everything out of there...

Not really, just start taking apart the dash.

I dunno, it might be to much work for some. For me, it's worth the 15 minutes to get it apart, replace the bulbs, and put it back together.
