plug wire cross-compatability?

Post by Fishy »

Forgivness if this has be beat to death but I did a bunch of searching and couldn't find an answer. I would like to know if plugwire sets off other year/model subarus would fit my 94 turbo wagon? how about N/A wires? or some newer WRX wires or something? the main reason I ask is that eBay seems to have an endless supply of wires that aren't for my car and the local shops around here suck pretty bad at getting things that aren't excell brand or whatever.

thanks in advance!

I bought new wires from my local Subaru dealer, and was surprised to find they were NGK's... Cheaper than the ones they had for my brother's 2000 2.5RS also.

I know the wires for RS's are different at the block side (the boot is a different shape). Not sure if they'd fit anyways.

I've been looking around for some NGK or Magnecor wires but I can't find hardly any and they're NOT reasonably priced when I do find a rare one. I think the last quote i got for a set of Magnecors was something in the $130 range. I'm calling BS on that and I'm going to try to find a cheaper way because, well... I'm cheap
I guess the worst-case scenario would be to check with the dealer. perhaps I'll do that tomorrow to see how much they want to ram me in the rear and if their wires are NGK.

I don't remember where I got my Magnecors, but I paid about $80. I probably posted it at some point if you want to search, but I don't recall.

I think the NGK's ran me about 80 bucks, as it looks like they're now the stock ones for our cars.

When it comes to our sparks, it would seem that NGK is really the only good thing for 'em. V-power plugs, and now cables... What's next, NGK DIS-2?

Not that I'd mind. ^-^

I went to the local subaru stealership yesterday to ask about plugwires and the regular guy was on lunch so I got the mechanic guy who's not used to running the desk... anyway he found a set of NGKs that were supposed to fit my car and "thinks" the price is around $110cad... but get this: when he was trying to look them up in the computer it seemed that subaru lists each plugwire as a separate part. WTF?

Anyway after tax it looks like about $127cad for OEM/NGK wires From the dealer if any fellow cannucks are looking for prices. I'm going to try another shop that works on mostly hondas that I haven't talked to yet (especially since I want some NGK's for my civic too).
