VRG3II FCD installed finally!

Post by magicmike »

Well it took me about 20 minutes to hook this thing up finally. It has been a real pain in the ass hitting fuel cut all the time. I only marginally raised the boost on my ebc though. I'm running aproximately 10-12 average with peaks of 13-14 depending on which gear I'm in. I will take some video of some 0-60, and 0-100 times tomorrow. It does pull like a motherfucker though.

No problem.

Mike, did you choose to wire the FCD in under the hood or under the dash?

how much for one of those FCD's? that fuel cut is getting really annoying.

I don't have any for sale right now, and probably won't for quite some time. But if you know someone who's handy with a soldering iron, they're cheap, easy, and fun to make yourself:

sweet. i'll give it a try, i just hope i dont mess anything up. maybe i can get one of my "electrical nerd" friends help me out. :D

and since it prevents the ECU from reading above 4.3 volts from the maf, would it affect the fuel flow alot at higher RPM's? like running lean? how much fuel is it flowing at 4.3 volt's?

It shouldn't effect the MAF signal, it should clamp the MAP sensor signal.

it clamps the MAP signal, yes. Below the clamp voltage, it reads normally. This helps keep the ECU thinking everything is OK during normal driving conditions. It never lets the MAP signal read high enough to trigger fuel cut. ECU doesn't need to see that you're running above 13 lbs, it just needs to see how much airflow is being pulled in.

My FCD's by the stock boost control assembly, and uses the military-grade chip (underhood temps no problem) with a 20-turn potentiometer in place of the precision resistor, so's the clamp voltage is adjustable. (no precision resistors of the proper value lying around). It's also on a connector for easy removal from the car in case I need to look at it or adjust it on the bench for any reason. Although, since I've gotten it in there the last time after adjusting the voltage it's worked perfectly so thats not necessary. Just what I had to do because of what I had available.
