att: i have changed a few of these points to fit my new findings. therefore some of the replies will no longer make sense. but they did help.
ok so i have this idea to use the turbo hood i added to my n/a wagon for more than just looks.
i'v been reading up about ram and more standard cold air intakes and all about the loss of low end torque with one and high end with the other.
so i the idea i have is to build a cold airbox which sits in the possition the TMIC would, just under the cold air coming from the hood scoop. the pod filter will enter the box at the right end of the box and will be sheltered by a angle cover which will keep the rain off and lower air turbulence before entering the filter
the system would have heat sheilding on the underside an would sit behind the engine so would suffer much less heat soak. also seeing as there is only about 10 inches of piping to the TB the air is kept colder and denser
i was looking an intake that maintains low end torque and because i like to get dirty in my wagon i dont want the intake lower than the hood !

Well, it's a novel idea.
My take on it:
1) Heat rises. The size of our hood scoops leaves a lot to be desired for actual air flow. Think of it this way. If you were sitting in traffic on a hot day, the air is going to rise out the hood scoop, and right into the filter.
2) The bends. Ideally, you want to make the air induction system as straight as possible with the least amount of bends.
You have a great idea for origionality, but it's just not a good idea. That's why you see most civic CAI intakes going to the bottom of the vehicle.

The ram air effect doesn't actually take place until over 400 mph, so don't worry about that. The best intake for these are the cheapest - rip out the snorkel and maybe run a hose to the front of the car (or to a NACA duct in the side like I've done). There's no loss of power at any part of the range that way and you are less susceptible to heat soak. Also gets a little louder intake-wise.

first for some reason i thought short intakes killed low end , forgot it was the heat.
second i plan on building a double lined box to house my pod with a rubber lip around the top to form a clean seal between the pod and sweet sweet hood scoop air.

There just isn't much gain to be had. The stock system is plenty good for torque. Snorkusuctomy is psychic hp, imho. Ram air intakes do hurt torque; they mess up maf readings and the positive pressure "current" cant build.
