drivetrain swap ?

Post by ellis976 »

i am new to this board but i scanned thru several posts and couldnt find out what i was wanting to know ... so here goes my question .. i own a 91 legacy awd turbo that runs and drives perfect but had a tree fall across the top of it .. i was wondering about swapping out the body with one not so crushed and was wondering if i had to use an awd body or if one from any legacy would work... might be a stupid question .. but like i said i am new to this . .. also what would be a good price to try and get out of it if i decided to sell and move on to other projects .. as i said it runs and drives good but the top is pretty messed up ... thanks

Ouch, sorry to hear about the tree, that sucks. As far as the body goes, any 90-92 body should fit just fine. I don't know about sedan -> wagon conversions but the drivetrain you have I would definately keep. You have the rear LSD if I'm correct and you'll probably want to keep that. You can also just transfer your drivetrain and engine into a donor shell. If you go that route you can use an 90-94 shell without a problem. If you keep searching around some you'll find some stuff about drivetrain conversions and things of that nature. I would also suggest you check out www.legacycentral.org and look at the articles there. Might be something of value to you. As far as price goes, I'm not knowledgable enough about pricing to give anything very definative, search through the Parts Shed forum would be a good starting place.

Welcome to the board also.

the donor car does not have to be AWD, if its not you will need all of the cross members off of your car, so they need to not be bent. i paid $900 for my parts car (1991 turbo AT) that was totaled. so anywhere around there would be good.
