I have been so busy of late I haven't had much time to socialize here on the site and have really only been tending my PM and FS stuff. But I have some super exciting news of a new job opportunity.

As of Monday I will be working for a Porsche tuner! :twisted: It is a company that has been around building race cars and doing restorations for the last 25 years. They have a huge warehouse full of parts from every model and vintage of production car, not to mention a number of ultra rare race parts. My job is going to be to get some sort of grasp on their inventory, run an E-bay store and keep their books. What a freaking dream job.

It is here in Boulder about 5 minutes from my house. I get to go to LA in 2 weeks for some intl expo and car swap, and should be hitting these sorts of shows and major motorsports events 10-12 times a years. And the biggest perk is that if I find used Porsche I want to acquire, the company will buy the car and float the loan as a payroll deduction. :shock:

Needless to say, I will be doing a pretty thorough cleaning of the ghetto garage and paring myself down to just the RS. The plan is to get an early 80's Carrera in six months or so. At that point, the RS becomes a full blown race car, cage and all.

I haven't posted about that either. I blew the engine in the RS a few weeks ago. I rebuilt it two weeks ago with a low mileage '00 shortblock from a Legacy. I used a .027cm cometic head gasket and bumped my CR up to 11.5:1. It drives like a bat out of hell now. I should have in on the dyno in a few weeks and will post the numbers. And I scored a set of buildable heads in the process. So now, I can get a full Pnp job (we have a head guy at the Porsche shop) and build my EJ257 block with 12.5:1 CR for racing.

And I am not even going to go into detail with the new lady in my life. But in short, life is good... :D

Good to hear. It's always good to hear about someone who's happy with their job and life.

What kind of experience do you have to get a job like that?

Right now I'm in a factory setting and I'm not liking it too much and I have no gf, how depressing. Oh well, I'm guessing it'll look up sooner or later.

Most of my background is in the outdoor industry. I used to work for REI, then Atlas Snow-shoe Company, and most recently Airwalk Footwear. My skill set is business operations, inventory controls, customer service and accounting.

It was my personal experience of working on cars for the last ten years that sealed the deal. They needed someone with the business skills who also would be able to tell the difference between 1st and 2nd gear or a set of 2.4l heads vs 2.7l heads...

Awesome man, I've always had an urge to get into business and to get some formal IT training. I'm pretty good with computers but I have no paper saying so.

I'm glad you landed a good job, sounds like it will be a thrill. Keep us posted on your up and coming Porsche. :)

That's a hell of a job man! Congrats!

See if they will buy you a Carrera GT, and just deduct that from payroll. I'm sure a rapper will sell theirs when it is no longer the "hip" thing to "roll" in.

I'd kill for a 944 Turbo, bright red, with 996 Turbo wheels on it :D

We are not really doing builds anymore. The owner has pretty much retired from that portion of the business, but we do have 4 or 5 924 and 944 project cars for sale. They are mostly turbos and one of them used to be a racecar. A couple thousand could get you into one that is mostly built and needs the finishing touches. I will see if I can come up with some pics, but they generally aren't all that pretty.

I am loving the job. Learning a ton about gearboxes, since that is our specialty. I already have a serious lead on an $8-12k racebox that I may close the deal on manana. And the commission money goes into the Carrera fund.

We even have my dream car on site. It is a totally cherry 1986 Carrera in what resembles Sedona Red, a real low production color. All original, low miles. I can get it for less than $20k. Better save my pennies and hope it doesn't sell by June/July when I expect to be able to afford it...

That's awesome you get to work with Porsches and get paid for it!!!

My dad just bought an immaculate Guards Red 1983 911SC. I got to drive it a few weeks ago, and I must say that I haven't driven a car as exhilarating as a 911!! They have such an awesome feel to them. Definately look at the SC series cars when you are lookin' for Porsches, because they are ultra reliable and still have tons of punch to em. And they are light, only weighing 2315 lbs.

Good luck with the new job...I am envious!!!

Sweet job. There is a guy here in FL that bought a laptop from me and his job is tuning race cars. He tunes the fastest Impala SS in the world. He has a back yard full of all kinds of sick cars. Mostly american made.
