engine stalls at close to idle speeds or drops 400-500 rpms

Post by yarikoptic »

Dear Legacy people.

The problem started next day after I've changed AT fluid and front differential oil to fix torque bind on my Legacy 1995 AT. It stall 3 times at idling... Well, I've "touched" all the hoses and wires I could bend while changing liquids and looking at air filter... then I drove for about a month ok, but I didn't drive far I believe.

Two days ago it stall twice while I was moving slowly, probably idle load (~10mph) in the traffic jam

After I got my hands on - I've found TCU reporting
22 - mass airflow signal
23 - engine speed signal
ECU reporting (thanks to Autozone free check)
P0100 -MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION
P0130 -FRONT OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (FO2 -- V)
(I've got some for ABS system as well but that must be a separate story)

So I've reset the computers by taking negative cavle off for 1/2 hour, drove home. Today I drove far again and this time I
stall 3 times on slow speeds
felt sudden drop in rpms by 400-500 rpms for a second or two (gas pedal seems lost resistance to leg for that moment) and then came back on... that happened once at low speed around 20-30 mph and then at high speed around 50-60 mph (not pleasant)

I came home and checked TCU -- now it reported just 23...

Please advise what can it be and what should I look for/test?

Thank you in advance for any words of wisdom
P.S. If any one can recommend cheap OBD-II PC interface so I can take advanced stats on what is going on?

Hi mate, I've noticed noone has answered this for you so I will try and help. I don't know what it could be but I know someone that will know. Go to www.rslibertyclub.org/forums and join up. You then need to speak to a guy named Al. His user name is AL_RS_22A. He is a Subaru guru and knows all

I'd be curious to see what codes are in the ECU again.

Code 23 wouldn't cause the issues your seeing. It may be a result of the problems however.

A bad MAF sensor can definitely cause the problems you are experiencing. I had similar issues where my car would lose power and/or stall. It turned out to be a bad MAF sensor.
