Funny, I could get a free tattoo this weekend, but I can't think of anything I'd want. Most of my friends have plenty, though.

If I ever got a tat, I've thought it out and I know what I want. I'd like to get a tat of an angel riding (not sexually) a drum with a guitar in one hand and playing a keyboard with the other. Across his chest there should be a ammo belt stuffed with drum sticks and guitar picks. To add a special touch he should be screaming notes. The only reason I'd like that particular picture is that I play all those instruments. I'd like to put some kind of book in the picture but I ran out of appendages.

I might get a velocipede ridden by kokopelli somewhere on my body. Maybe on my leg.

I have always wanted a chainring tattoo (bike thing)

If I were going to get a few tattoos (for balance), first thing I'd get is a charging elephant with maybe one flinging a person with its trunk on the other side. If I ever make one of my cars and contest the 200 mph East Coast Timing Assoc. club, I'd get that put somewhere. Maybe some Ojibwe thing if I found something cool. The "Stop Devil's Night Arson" sign eyeball from Detroit would be cool, but my friend already did that.

I've always wanted something like that too, I've got the scar on my right calf. But something cycling related will be the next ink, on my calf I think. A cool thing some of the other bike dorks might know is that the single speed MTB world champions, one man and a woman each year, don't get prize money or a trophy. For a few years the champ got a tattoo, the last couple of years the "prize" has been a brand...like cattle. If you didn't get the tattoo or be branded, you would be stripped of your title. The only pic I could dig up:
Image
I tried to take a pic of my tat, but I can't get a good over-the-shoulder through the mirror shot.

that's a SLICK tribal design on your shoulder. the red looks VERY cool.

I've been sort of idly thinking about a sleeve for a while, but don't have anything interesting to get done, and I think I'm too young to get another tattoo.. I'll wait a few years, and pass the time between with peircings, which can be taken out

I'd be covered in tattoos if they werent so expensive. a friend of mine who is really good at drawing is thinking about getting a tattoo gun, trying to convince him.
I want to get bike chain around my bicep, spiderwebs over my elbows, a bunch of flames, some celtic knot stuff, some band related ones, etc etc

just because someone is good at drawing DOES NOT mean that they'll be good at tatooing. It's an art form in itself, and requires an apprenticeship with a quality artist

true indeed. tats are pretty much permanent, barring you have someone who can 'recover' it for you. I myself have to get one covered up, due to a bad choice..
I'm just wondering how cool we're gonna be at the nursing homes and shit, like later in life. If you were old, wrinkly, and locked up, would you show off the tats from your prime?

that's why I'm careful about the art that I pick. I think that as our "generation" ages, i'll be more normal for old people to have tattoos and body modifications. Even now, I occasionally see 50ish year old men with industrials, or streched ear lobes. Tattoos are becoming incredibly mainstream now. My only question is, will those lower back tattoos with tribal designs and butterflies still be sexy when they're sunken into sagging asscracks? I think that it's all a matter of why you get your tattoo, and if you think about what it will look like in 40 years. Another point of view on the subject is, are you really going to want to show off your body(and inherently tattoos) when you're 60?

To me personally, half of the reason of getting the tattoo is the experience. It can be a really spiritual experience. When I got the scorpion redone on my back, I felt closer to my brother than I had the entire time he was living.

yeah, lol. no way I'll go under the gun until he's got some practice. Wouldnt being good at drawing have a lot to do with being good at tattooing? its just another art medium, albeit a more difficult one than say charcoal. having an eye for line, shading, contrast, etc. and a steady hand helps im sure :)

It's about as similar as sculpting and painting. An artistic person may be good at one or a few mediums, but there's always one they are best at and at least one they're only alright with. A girl I was seeing years ago was offered a job drawing for a tattoo artist because of the tattoo she designed for herself.
