Removing eBrake cable from rear wheel hub?

Post by DeusExMachina »

I've got everything off but the axle nut (need to get a 32mm socket tomorrow), the ABS sensor (one easy bolt) and the hand brake cable from the rear driver's side wheel hub.

I can't figure out how to remove it. Is there any trick? I'm removing the whole knuckle, carting it off to a dealership and having them remove/install a new wheel bearing.

The manual is a little confusing about this, is it okay to deattach everything from the knuckle, remove the axle nut and slide the hub off the knuckle? Thats what I'm doing.

As a side note, the rear ebrake drum brake baffled me and my friend. He thought it was really cool and confusing. I was just confused how the cable ran to the caliper when the caliper was off and sitting on a bucket nearby, then pulled off the rotor and found out why. :)

There is a clip you need to pull off that allows the sheeth around the cable to pull out of the hub. You then have to get enough slack to be able to unhook the cable from the front side of the hub where the parking brake is. Yes it's a little complicated to say the least. I had the whole parking brake assembly out when I did my swap.

I may have a few pictures from my swap that might help, if you want to paruse

Also, those abs sensors can be a bitch to get out if they're rusted. I killed the one that was in my hub.

Could you link me to the pic? Having a hard time finding one..

There's a clip that looks like a hose clamp. Is that it? Its almost right up against the back of the hub. Or is it further forward?
