What to Mod?

Post by -K- »

Ok I have a stock 93SS to play with. So what do mods do people want to see? I'll G-Tech my progress at the least.
I'm thinking I'll play with my SAFC-2 and a WB02.
Then???

That's Right!!!
Leaving a Sport Sedan stock is silly when they have so much tuning potential.

You guys are nuts. I'd love to just have a cherry one that even had the plastic strut tower covers and the "MPFI 16 Valve Turbo" cover too.

Yikes!!! I can't stand those engine covers!

The sad part is, a stock SS has no more power than a 2.5 GT.

Hmmm the DOHC heads. The only thing is the CR stuff. It would be interesting to see if it makes much difference.

I have a lot of ideas but it's the order and what makes what difference in power that I'm looking at.

The power is so different from a 2.5 N/A to the 2.2 turbo. I had fun with my first SS while it was still stock.

TBE, 16G or 18G, FMIC (or are you swapping in your AWIC?), lots of suspension mods, WRX front brake swap with a BF proportioning valve.

That'd be good start.

Oh and I second the DOHC swap. I'm thinking about doing that myself, for my rebuild.

How about a header on the stock turbo? I'd like to see what that does.

I think the exhaust might be first. It's not very expensive to do and the stock exhaust would choke any other mods power gains. I have not seen much good about headers, stock seems to work pretty good. Doesn't seem like a good $$$ to HP mod.

As for the intercooler I'm not sure yet. I like my AWIC but am thinking about a FMIC. I'll just have to think about it some more.

Turbo, I might be a little out there but I would like to pick up a VF12. It's got the right inlet and will make the power I'm looking for. 16G maybe....but I don't know if I would ever use it all.

I don't see the reason to go DOHC right off. Stock heads are pretty good.

Forget 454, I could hook you up with a guy who build 1075 HP supercharged and intercooled 555 cubic inch (magic number) big blocks for offshore racing.

You can get a thinner head gasket to bring the compression on 2.5 RS heads up. The guy i bought my garrett t3/t4 has an ej22t with 2.5 RS heads and a thinner headgasket. I can ask if you want.

I think your new Legacy already has a nice stainless exhaust system on it. I'm not sure what size, but it looked real nice.

Hmmm I'll have to look at the exhaust when I get home. So close now :D

There will be no big block swap.
I think I will leave the engine alone for now, if I changed the heads I wouldn't be able to put a SOHC NoTECH sticker on at the track

One thing that will be done is the clutch and flywheel.

Yeah. Full 3" WRX turboback and lightweight flywheel with a HD pressure plate makes it a very nice car to drive. I can personally attest to that :) :)

Find any WRX turboback, they can be found dirt cheap new or used (and they can go on unmodified). I would recommend the Exedy flywheel, too.

I have a SPEC clutch and flywheel on the 92 and love it. It's a stage 2 kevlar clutch that doesn't grab but holds well and lets you slip it without burning.

My brother and I are going to go in together on a wb02 and I'm realy interested in what I will find.
