Perhaps there are a few more, but these transmissions are overall amazingly simple AWD units. Since I could not figure out what was wrong with my trans, not going into first, I decided to open the case and see for myself, taking many pictures all the way. I believe I have found my problems.
1. The 1-2 gear selector shaft has an indention in which a ball bearing appears to fall into when you are in "nuetral" between gears. My bearing is now out, and there is a pin out as well. How can I, and how do they go back in?
.....I believe I was the cause of this one when I "shifted" the gear selector towards the second gear position and just pulled to far. This is when I believe the bearing came out, and unknowingly I tried to force it back in not knowing that the bearing was just being pressed a pin, one of which is still in its "correct" spot, and one that is now in my hand.
2. The output shaft has 1-2 floating on it with its respective gear selector. Even with the shaft out, I can not engage the floating first gear with the shaft.
I may be looking into a new gearset, or if the bearing issue is to much to handle I will be looking for a new case and gearset, or the easy way being a "weak" WRX trans. Any input is appreciated, I just thought I might as well post my findings. I work as an undergrad in a lab at UW-Madison's Engine Research Center, usually I get some very good opinions/explanations from these guys since they get to see the stuff in person. I will try to get up some pictures if anyone would be interested in the internals, "damage" etc.....
Thanks again.
Eric
