How loud are your fuel injectors?

Heads, valves, pistons, rods, crankshaft, etc...

How loud are your fuel injectors?

Post by douglas vincent »

And if they are uber loud, does this mean anything?

I have had a loud tapping in relation to rpm which I always thought was valve noise. But I finally pinpointed it to be coming from injector #2. All the others are kinda loud, but nothing like this one. You can hear it standing next to the car with the hood closed.

They're not supposed to be loud, I don't think. I would imagine that a loud injector probably has suffered some kind of damage so the pintle isn't quite in the right position or something. I don't know for sure though. It's possible that the design of these particular injectors you have makes them louder than most.

Neon injectors click very loudly. You heard them before you notice engine noise.

These are those 370 cc Nismo (?) injectors I stuck in. They were used, but work. Its just that the one is louder than the rest. And I think, just thinking because I just realized the tapping noise was coming from them, not the valve train, that I have been able to make the extra loud tapping go away sometimes by turning off and on the car. Hmmmm.

Hmmmm. These are high-impedance injectors, right?

Dont know, just know they work.

I suspect they are the correct kind (what do we have?) because if you compare them side by side to the stock 270 cc injectors, they are about 100% identical, even with the printing. The only real two differences are where the lower o-ring is and the clip.

Well, maybe you should take an ohmmeter to them and check. You hope to see about 12 ohms.

I doubt they're low-impedance, though. If they were I'm sure they would have burnt out by now, or even possibly burnt out the ECU's drivers.

Many injectors I've installed are very noisy. Since I am building ECUs we've tested a number on the bench to make sure the injector driver current is good during the peak phase and the dwell is long enough. As a result, I get to hear them without an engine. Subaru injectors aren't that bad. DSM are pretty loud. RC engineering depends a lot on the size. I have a set of Siemens 720's for my GTX and those sound like marbles in a can.

If you have one that's louder you should have them cleaned. It's not that expensive - $100 or less.
