JDM projection foglights install?

I put this question in the body section because I am fine with the electrical part of it, i just want to know how people have installed the projection foglights in their facelift bumpers. If this has already been addressed somewhere else, please direct my there. I already searched though.

DUDE. I've got my set and am having the same issue. We should organize a foglight install meet. Damn JDM. I looked at it and it seems that the bumper cover is going to have to come off inorder to drill into the bumper beam.

Hehe, I'm sitting on my pair of JDM fog lights as well. The JDM bumper beam is different from ours. When I last got under there it looked like the thing to do would be to cut two slots in and bend it down to form something that the fog light can bolt to. If you're really really really patient with a Dremel it looked like it might be possible to do it through the fog light holes in the bumper cover. That is, after taking precautions to prevent the airbag from going off, of course.

Vikash, why would the airbag activate? Doesn't it need at least one of the front sensors, and the sensor in the air bag computer to close the circuit at the exact same time and have the air bag computer on recieving this information?

I don't know what it needs exactly. I'm just paranoid about it going off. I'm sure if you follow the instructions in the FSM about disarming it it'd be fine.

Why not just pull the battery for 10 minutes beforehand? Same as if you were doing something with the steering wheel, no?

You just have to give it a few minutes for the caps to drain. Still, I'm glad I don't have those things.

its almost imposible to mount them spotties and make them look good. i looked and tried. the prob is our ntsha or sumtin 30mph bumper beams thats why we didnt get the fogs over here on the facelift. i got a edm bumper with the beam. it aint even a beam its like little sheets of metal. i gotta post pics..

sorry, i have not even turned on a computer in a week. I have an extra 91 turbo bumper beam to work with but i don't know if it is the same(besides the skin). If i was going to do any work on the bumper beam it is probably easier to just take it off. just 8 bolts. I wouldn't worry about the airbag as long as you deactivate it. I will probably try to put them on a little later on in spring when i am not so busy. I have a pair of Hella FF1000s on the front so i am already distracted by those monsters!!! I think i will end up just make a new bracket that replaces the whole adjustable bracket. Probably the easiest way.

the bumper beam's really quite thick. I dont think that dremel would cut it. best bet would be taking the bumper beam off after marking where the fogs would go

guys this is not as hard as you think to get done and you can do it in most cases if you're handy with power tools. What you do is purchase a 4" x 4" 90 degree angle bracket, then with the bumper cover still on, mount your fogs to the bracket you just bought....then place your hand up underneath the bumper (you may have to jack up your car) and place the bracket up against the steel beam and position the light where you think it should go so its perfectly centred in the bumper cutout. Then have someone else mark the hole of the bracket with a pencil or fine marker tip through the hole that's already provided for you in the bracket you just bought. That way you can now remove your light, take off your bumper cover to expose the steel beam, and you've got your hole that you need to drill. Now, in some cases depending on the bracket obviously the hole that's already on it may not line up with where the foglight neeeds to be on it, so you may have to drill new holes to mount the foglight to the bracket. These brackets you can find at WalMart for like 1.59 each or something like that. Now take a 9/16" drill bit made for heavy guage steel, preferably a titaniujm coated bit, and drill the beam. Now take some 1" long "self-tapping screws" and screw in the bracket to the beam with the light already mounted to it. Do the other side and you've got your custom install! I dont have pics but you get the idea hopefully.
What you need is this to make it work :

1. 9/16" titanium drill bit x 2 or 3 just in case one breaks
2. 1" stainless steel self-tapping screws
3. 4' x 4" galvanized angle bracket x 2
4. Power Drill

that IS how you install them in the pre-cut holes in the bumper, when you put the bumper back on the fogs will be lined up perfectly with the holes in the bumper, the factory cutouts, only thing is it wont be physically attached to the bumper. Better this way in my opinion!

If possible, take a picture of your bumper beam where the fogs attach, but thats probably too much of a pain.

Watching this thread - hope it starts up again. Thinking of going the bracket route myself...I bet if I took this into a place that install aftermarket foglights full time they'd have this baby in an hour - at a price of course.
