a few pics of my latest mods

Post by jake15 »

well, i finally got my WRX hoodscoop put on my car. i was going to put it on my spare hood, but my dad sent it to the scrap yard the day before  luckily the only thing i lost that was useful was the hood. the install was pretty easy, i sanded all of the bolt/screw on places of the WRX hoodscoop, positioned it on the hood where i wanted it, taped it securely into place, checked placement again, drilled some holes, and then i riveted it to the hood. it looks pretty dang good. I also got my VRG3 FCDII put it, having no boost/fuel cut is alot more fun :D

heres a couple hoodscoop pics (better ones when i find a cool place to take some pics)

the best part is if i want to put the stock scoop back on, all i have to do is seal the holes and bolt the scoop back on (i didnt cut any metal) but i need to create some type of air diverter next..... any ideas?

Sweet Jake! Man, I've had a WRX scoop for about 1.5 years but I'm totally dragging my feet because the install worries me. I need the flow though.

From what can be seen in those pics it looks good. :)

So you sanded down the wrx hoodscoop so it is flush with the hood, what did you rivit to? did you drill holes in the scoop, and if so where?

Thanks

Wow indeed, shit...looks nice.

Can you take a pic from the driver side view from the inside or standing aside the driver door?

I think now that it's been tempted by someone we'll see them popping up all over the place..

Any reason why you didn't paint to match?

While you're taking pics, can you grab one of the entire car from the side?

snowjob- i drilled holes through the scoop and the hood, then i riveted it down. the front holes (5 in total) were drilled in front of the spoke things on the mouth of the scoop (3) and 2 were place inbetween those 3 rivets. on the back they are all in line with the front ones, except for an extra one on each side (back is wider)

quickdrive- i didnt paint it because i have no money  it blends in with the other black parts of my car well enough for now, but hopefully i'll get the whole car painted, as i have a unpainted rear bumper too.

i'll get those pics tomorrow, its too dark right now.

the install is easy and relatively pain free (its hard to drill holes in your hood  ) but as long as you take your time to measure and make sure its in the right spot, it will come out lookin sweet :D

start restart- thanks! its an oem hoodscoop of a '02 WRX, it came off of a car we did a swap on and he went STi hoodscoop so i got this for free :D but they can be had for anywhere from free-50ish dollars, depending on condition.

qman- where are you at? and if you're local how come you never say anything when we try to put together meets? huh? huh? j/p

If you were to do it again would it be possible to drill a larger hole than the rivit, but only deep enought so the head of the rivit would be recessed, then once you had put in the rivit, put some of the epoxy plastic repair stuff in the holes, sand it down and you would have a flush smooth hood scoop with no rivit marks,
I think this looks Pimp, I'm doing it this weekend, great job jake

Nice work Jake. It's unique too, with the rivets.
Looks like a pretty small clearance on those washer nozzles.

because i dont feel like repainting the scoop, or taping off just the rivet heads and painting those. the rivets add an interesting contrast to the black of the scoop.

Ask Steve who I am. I am not on here that often and I am usually buried in projects or family stuff. Matter of fact I am just finishing up the XT6 rally car. Should be a fun ride!

I might be getting a Carbon Fiber scoop from an 02 for free tomorrow, so if I do, I'll be using it on my car probably.

Jake you inspired me

http://ca.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/educat ... pg&.src=ph

you get full credit for this one, I would have done it in a far more complicated way, Thanks.
I sunk my rivit heads and covered the holes in plasic repair material and then sanded smooth.
