Spring Break

Post by dzx »

Since its that time of the year again, who went where and who has pics.

I'll start, I went to South Padre Island in Texas for 7 days and it was a blast barring the fact that 4 people died while i was down there. We went through 12, 30 packs of busch lite and numerous 18 packs of other brands while we were there. Probably wont be drinking beer for a while. I'll post a link to the pictures later when the site is working.

I spent last Saturday stuck in a shithole called Titusville, FL because the legacy didn't feel up to the trip I had planned for Orlando.

I ate a Krystal Chic and a large sweet tea. Smoking good time!! I got to see my old high school and the VAB.....but that was the highlight of my springbreak. Sorry no pictures.

I'm spending THIS week getting shit done. I dont work til the weekend, so I'm getting an alignment tomorrow. Tuesday if it's dry outside, i'll be washing, barring, polishing, and waxing the wagon, and maybe seafoaming it, wednesday probably spending some time with people from high school, and thursday hopefully spending all day alone with art. :)

I dunno what my schedule is for next week.

I went backpacking up in the lost creek wilderness area, about 60 miles west of Colorado springs. we started out last sunday, and as many of you coloradoans know it started snowing saturday night. we were hiking through snow anywhere from 6" to 3'. the first night we camped at an abandoned dam workers encampment with buildings from the early 1870's. this was about 5 miles back. frickin amazing, fascinating old stuff. we also explored some ice caves that were carved into the side of a mountain, really really cool. that night we had a huge ass fire. the next day, we started up a mountain to Wigwam park, we were hauling ass. after about 10 miles up a 10% grade we got to the top of the mountain and lost the trail. rather than look for it, we decided to turn around. didnt feel like getting lost and dying. we made it about 1/2way down and camped. probably the coldest I have ever been in my life. we had a nice "white mans fire" consisting of the better part of 2 dead trees. that night it became clear and got to about -30 F I would estimate. I have a 15 degree bag and was wearing all my clothes, still a little cold. didnt get any sleep until next morning when it warmed up a bit. boots were ice blocks. then, we started back down. it was about 12 miles out from where we were camped. we stopped by the "shafthouse" due to the nice weather. the shafthouse was where the dam construction had taken place. there were AMAZING views there. hauled ass back to the truck. on the ~20 mile road out, we had a blowout and were forced to change the tire in a nasty mixture of slush and mud. once we got home, sat in the hot tub for a good while. pretty much the most intense hike of my life, and Ive done a few 50 milers. all in all I'd say our mileage was around 30. Pics on monday.
the remainder of the break was spent putting in my 5mt. man what a difference, with the 5mt and gutted rear cat it is way faster.

My Spring Break is over too. I spent the whole thing toying with Granpa's new wagon :)

I went skiing at Whistler-Blackcomb last week. Not much snow, but it was fun and snowed a bit Wednesday. Skied Blackcomb Sunday and Thursday, and Whistler Monday and Wednesday. I wish we'd gone up to Whistler Friday. Instead we sat around, ate pizza and watched basketball.
Pictures:

Parking lot at Blackcomb. Pretty dry:

The Couloir Extreme at Blackcomb. I would have liked to ski it Thursday but it was closed. From the looks of it people were ducking the rope anyway.

The ski-out to the bottom of Blackcomb. You couldn't even ski out of Whistler.

The peak at Whistler.

A cool lake I saw from the top of Whistler.

The valley, from Whistler.

It snowed Wednesday at least. Visibility was low and it was windy.
Image

The peak chair stopped while we were on it. It was windy, and we were about 100 feet off the ground at this point, although you couldn't see it.
Image

The snow was a lot better Wednesday and Thursday. I even got some turns in powder, although I hit a few hidden rocks. Totally worth it though. There's nothing better than floating through fresh powder.

Mmmm. Beer.

I've just always wanted to get to whistler.

I spent two days backpacking in the national forest. We went out past McAfee's Knob near Roanoke and headed towards Tinker Cliffs, about 8 miles out. We went through snow most of the way and the ridge there were drifts I couldn't get the bottom of my stick to the bottom of. I spent the night in my hammock under my tarp. It didn't get to -30 but it definately got down low in the teens. Had a great time and Sunday morning I headed back to work on my car while the others continued down the trail. I picked them up Tuesday and got treated to a dinner out for the trail magic. It was great backpacking and great getting my car fixed. What a difference it's made. The rest of break I just spent sitting on my ass and driving.

Wow, I just wish I could go to whistler anytime, the mountains in the east just don't quite compare.

Nice W/BC pics. That's a criminally low amount of snow, I hope you got a discount.
I've got break this week. So far I: drank, got a GT Driving Force Pro, and got a little random action. Shaping up to be pretty fun so far.

I wanna go to Whistler SO bad! I would kill to do it.

I have spring break this week.

Today, I slept in at my lady-friends place.

Tomorrow is step1 of converting my friends 05 WRX to a Stage4 beast.

Wednesday, is junkyard day to get supplies for Matt's project that I'll be doing once it's a little warmer.

Thursday is step2 of converting my friends 05 WRX to stage4.

Friday, putting my friends battery in his trunk.

Saturday, Meet at MachVMotorsports. I get to drive my friends 300+ whp 2002 WRX to the meet. Pretty stoked about that. Should be fun :)

Sunday, waking up at my lady-friends place :)

Damn Andrew.....I know you live in FL but you look like a tourist. J/K. I will be willing to forgive if you attend the SE Subaru meet.

I wonder if the beaches around here look like the ones near you. With the hurricanes I think alot of the beach is gone.

You really need to lower the resolution on those pics. I'm on a nice university connection and I got tired of waiting for them. Mine are 800x600, compressed for web in photoshop. They look decent and don't take too long to load.

This took me llike 2 minutes. There you go- Resized and compressed.
