Torque Bind? lock up solenoid?
I got a bc5 fwd with the 4eat. When i first start the car up and put it into drive when the cars cold there is no probelm. But when the car is warmed up and i go from park to any gear the car will either stall out or bogg down to like 100 rpm. The car goes thru all its gears with no problem but somtimes when i come to a stop it feels like convertor is binding up. The car will basicly lurch to a stop. torque bind? anyone got any links to any tsbs or tranny pin read outs would be great. i did a search but no one else has the same complaint. Just to add i HATE the 4eats. I put 4 trannys in this thing from a wrecker and i could not get one that was a good 4eat! i ended up putin the tranny back in that i origanly pulled. It was either no go at all or the tranny sliped like a $lut. any help would be great because i am trying to sell this car cause i am in need of dough for a upcoming project.

Every tranny i put in there had a different problem. no reverese or shudder or hesation like most 4eats........i got a scrap convertor with every tranny i got from the yards. I even switched up a convertor that came from a yard for the orignal one that was in there. so when i put the old tranny in it would have a diffeerent convertor in it but still same problem with the tranny. i was hoping i could cut a wire for a lock up solinoid like you could do on alot of the gm's that are starting to bind. thanks for the help guysvrg3 wrote:Yeah, I agree.
You've swapped multiple transmissions and still had the same problems -- have you swapped torque converters as well, or are you still using the original one?

I read through the factory service manuals about this before, when I used to have an automatic... It was a little unclear to me, but here's what I gathered:
Torque converter lockup is controlled by pilot pressure developed in the transmission. The pilot pressure is controlled by Duty Solenoid B.
When pressure is applied to the lockup control valve, it makes the torque converter operate normally (no lockup). When the pressure is missing or drained away, it locks up. Duty Solenoid B drains away this pressure.
The transmission's design only develops pilot pressure in 1st gear, reverse, and neutral/park. In any other gear there is no pilot pressure so the torque converter is automatically locked up. In 1st/reverse/neutral/park, the TCU can choose whether or not it will lock up by choosing the duty cycle of Duty Solenoid B. It uses a duty cycle of 95% to cause lockup and 5% to prevent lockup, and varies in between only when it's switching between them (i.e. it tries to keep things smooth, but doesn't ordinarily run partial duty cycles).
I'm no expert on these transmissions, so someone please correct me if I got something wrong.
But, if this is mostly right, maybe your Duty Solenoid B is sticking open. If you're unlucky maybe the transmission isn't producing the proper pressure in 1st gear. You could just try cutting the wire to the solenoid (I presume that's more or less that the procedure for GMs you're describing is too), but if the solenoid's sticking it may or may not help...

i'm having the same prob. except my car won't move now. if i put it in any gear it will just stall . i work at a shop so i pulled codes and it was code 24 and in the history codes their was a 33 vss. code 24 was duty solenoid c. i looked in all data and i think c controls 3-4 shift and torque converter lockup. also when it was on the lift i could hear the solenoid buzzing with the key on engine off . so it leads me to believe that this solenoid is sticking . but also tonight it did the same thing but i couldn'e hear the solenoid. any luck with yours post the fix and i'll be sure to do the same .
