Standard transmission high performance clutch options
Are there any clutch options for the regular AWD/FWD transmission? The 2.5 RS uses a push style IIRC, so that wouldn't be an option. Are there any light weight flywheels that would work with any available clutches?

Steve, the 2.5RS does use a push style clutch, but so does the n/a awd/fwd trannies. So a clutch for the 2.5RS will work, same goes for lw flywheels.
The info I have says that the 2.5RS clutch disc is the same size as the legacy n/a models......just as an fyi.

Whoops, I meant pull style on my first post. Not that it matters as I was WRONG! Excellent though.
Hmm. Why would I need a high performance clutch for my engine ...

This damn warm weather is killing me and seeing as I get the same mileage as a turbo ... I'm feeling like taking a chance with FWD. I'll make the car listed in some catalogs, but never actually produced. Finding an AWD manual donor car is difficult to say the least. The car's going to look sick with the new lights and will need something to back it up. Plus I don't want to know what 8:1 with the extra weight of AWD will be like. I'm pricing parts out right now. I should be able to finish sometime in the summer. I'm just going to use the stock turbo for now with an FMIC as I need intake tubing anyway and I have to pull the engine for the clutch instal and that would make bumper carving easier.
That's the idea for now, I'll see how my bank account agrees (it doesn't, but if I nag it enough it may capitulate).

Steve - Pull the bumper, grab the cutter, and have at it.
It'll be hard as a bitch to cut it from inside the engine bay. Just take the bumper off
.
Far as performance clutches, I'm sure you could use a 2.5RS setup.
A high performance clutch is a good addition, even to a stock engine. It makes things feel so much better.

I think the FWD will be OK for a little while as around town performance is fine (so I won't be gunning it), but accelerating onto the highway sucks balls and at that point I should be good. Replacing the steering rack bushings should offer a little more control, too. I think the transmission will be fine as I won't be making huge power, any extra power can go out the tires, and though it has about 150k on it, the transmission seems excellent [knocking hard on wooden table].

I have to say Steve, I'm glad to see a FWD getting some additional power and some TLC. I definately want AWD on my next Legacy but the FWD still does just fine and handles equally as satisfactory. I also like the slightly longer gear ratio (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) and have always though a little more power behind it would be nice. My transmission has a solid 210k on it and while I don't high revs I still drive it and it's holding up just fine. I would think that with only the stock turbo you should be fine, as you said, any excess can go out the tires.

3.700 for us vs. 3.900 for turbos. We are the only Legacys to get this ratio, although I've seen older Subaru turbos with it (including rear LSDs).

I will say that a FWD turbo car will definitely have some go if you can get the traction down.

3.7, that's what I thought we were. The biggest problem I think you'll have is putting the power down. I can break mine loose on the 1st to 2nd shift on a hard launch if the asphault is wet. When I'm racing people though, 2nd gear is butter and to have a turbo behind it would be sweet. If you kept the BOV recirc'd and if you go with a FMIC, can we say sleeper
.

I will do an AWD swap at some point, but I can only live with my bank account's guilt for one or the other this year and since I'm not finding any good donors around ...
Yeah, I can spin the tires in the wet in 2nd even with 8:1. I'm actually hoping the FMIC will increase lag a little. Everything I'm doing will be with the thought of 16G in the future. I guess it's OK this way, too, as I don't have the money for proper EM and the reprogrammed ECUs aren't ready yet.
I'm not sure how much of a sleeper it will be with the 90 mm lights, grille, Forester wheels, and lower air intake, but it at least won't be shouting out loud (literally as I'm going recirc).
