Keep my legacy wagon?

Post by zapjackson »

Ok, heres my problem. Ive been looking for something new, but im not sure which option i want to go with. I have a '92 legacy wagon right now, and i want something a lot faster. Im not sure if i should keep my car and do an ej20t swap, or just sell my car and by a legacy turbo or impreza rs. Can someone help me out on this. My car has 186k and is in pretty good shape. It just needs a new paint job.

IMO, if your planning on doing a turbo swap anyway, Id get an Impreza to start with. Newer, stiffer, lighter, and lots more body options if you so decide in the future.

I personally wouldnt start with a wagon, with a performance goal in mind. Although I love wagons, less weight=faster car.

Im a huge fan of the 2.5RS. Id own one, but cant afford it.

If you're looking for faster(and still cheap), a 2.5RS isn't really the way to go, as you would just have to end up turbo-ing it, or do an NA build which will not be cheap, also a 2.5RS will be pricey to begin with. A legacy turbo or Impreza with a EJ22T swap are really your best options if you're looking to go faster.

It all kinda depends on your financial status. As rallitektech said I love the 2.5 RS too. However if I has the $$ for an EJ20T swap for my Legacy, I would do it in a second simply for the fact of being different.

I'd keep the wagon as a beater, particularly if you have winter in your location. It probably wouldn't bring more than $1000 on the open market, and less than that for a trade.

I wouldn't touch a 2.5RS with a 10 foot pole. They look nice but I'd be wondering when the engine will blow, every day. Not worth the worry.

The interior of the Impreza would be an additional cost IMO. My brother-in-law is selling his OBS because the granite seats kill his back. Plus there's just the look of the dash and door cards.

Hmmm, i really would like to have something different. There is this 93 legacy turbo wagon forsale down by my house. That thing looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor, and it only has 56k miles. The guy wants $5k. I was thinking that might be a little too much but, i will look into getting it for cheaper.
