Emissions Help Failed NOx

91 Legacy Non Turbo
Failed My Emissions Test High in NOx
at high speed (25 mph) Nox(ppm) 2407 - passing is 878
at low speed (15 mph) Nox (ppm) 2514 - passing is 970
I have a bad solenoid Purge control Valve, but it was bad last year when I got it tested and passed, do you think I have to replace it or is there a temporary work around, can I get one used, or do I need my cat looked at,
any help would be appreciated

They put you on the rollers here too. Well, they put 2WD cars on the rollers. Id imagine his car is 2WD too.

Yeah, they do that here in MA also. AWD cars just get the sniffer.

NOx is high heat, so I would check and make sure the proper plug is installed, also might not be a bad idea to try some seafoam to clean out the combustion chamber.

If that's still not working, I'd look at the catalytic converter.

Cost of the cats can be rather pricey. You could try and get a used setup, which should be cheap, under 100 bucks or so.

If you have to buy new....couple hundred dollars.

Another option is to replace the stock header with one from a newer 2.5 engine, and get a custom header back system with a generic catalytic converter. That would probably be cheaper.
