grindy whine if starting and hard turning

Hi everyone.. so here's the scoop.. a couple months back I had a tangle with some black ice, and wound up off the road, and had to try pretty hard to get back up (friendly snow plow pulling my tow chain, while I was gently giving my slipping wheels hell from the wrong side of a wooded embankment).. one of the front wheels wasn't moving at all, and the other was going all-out... which I assumed was a little out of the ordinary, but nothing my diff couldn't handle.. I have no idea if its related, but lately I noticed something which I am quite sure I never heard before- a whiny, grindy noise, like putting your hand down on a spinning bike tire (nyyyyrrrrrrrrrrrt!) whenever I start with a little gut, and am turning. For example, if I'm getting out of a streetside parking spot on a hill, you hear NNNYYYYYYRRRRRRRRTTT!. Not so if I'm going straight. However, since the spin-out I have also changed wheels (same overall diameter, and don't seem to rub) and struts. I will probably do oil and diff oil this weekend, but I don't know what else to try. Any thoughts welcome.

Also, it happens in time with the clutch going down, not before or after, but during its engagement. So as soon as the clutch is engaged, it stops. Definately sounds like its from the front. Clutch feels okay, though.. not any slippier than before.

hmm, my car's been making the same noise lately. Exactly the same as you describe it. If I'm giving it some gas going through an intersection I'll get that "grindy" grrr noise for about 2 seconds until I come out of the turn.

I have a 4EAT though...

have you changed wheels or anything? Im trying to eliminate possibilities.. or have you ever gotten stuck and made the diff really earn its pay?

Did the inner wheel liner get pulled out?

Wow, Jibboo- be careful, it might be your clutch-- as it /was/ my clutch. I messed around with it at work last night, and loosened out the adjustment nut for the clutch lever, so that it would engage more fully, and wahoo- no more whine, though the car doesn't take off as nicely any more. Anyway, I fear the worst as for what several weeks of having a not-totally-engaged clutch means for what part i'll have to replace next- anyone know if there's a way to check clutch wear conclusively, or is it just by feel?

I have the automatic, so I don't have a clutch to worry about. It's either my trans. or the diff, I'm thinking trans. though, since it's been taking longer and longer to engage gears lately. Going from drive to reverse to back into my driveway takes the car a solid 2-3 seconds.

Since funds aren't exactly easy for me to come by, I'm planning on driving it until something breaks and I can't anymore. That way, whatever broke is probably what was making this noise. That's my theory anyway, haha.
