EJ22 turbo w/EJ20G heads?

Post by Scoobyslack »

ok, been reading alot of info on replacing the stock 2.2 turbo heads...unfortunately the info is reguarding 2.5L or 2.2L heads

has anyone used EJ20 heads (not from USDM motor) on their 2.2 turbo block?
which gasket to use?
compression ratio change?

thanks for any help 8)

I might be hesitant to do this...at least with stock heads. I have an EJ20G from a 94 JDM wrx...and the hydraulic valve actuators seem problem prone, I've also heard this from others. I was looking into fixing it on my car at one point, and many just suggested I find a replacement for the stocks, maybe something with mechanical valve lash adjusters or something. I've also read some people who tune EJ22's suggest that the heads are not an obstacle to producing very high hp, although the valve springs I think need to be replaced with stiffer ones to run above 7000 something rpms I think. Although a port and polish and three angle valve job and such can help.

well I would think about P&P but I am getting more than just the heads...and the price is right :D

I did find some info for USDM EJ20 heads on the 2.2, using the 2.2 gasket the CR would lower slightly, but not sure if the volume of the heads are the same for the older JDM EJ20 :?:
