Sooby is BOOSTIN!

Post by THAWA »

At around 6:30 tonight I got the ecu temporarily plugged in and the essential wiring setup. Turned the key, it took about 6 cranks and BLAM! A thunderous boxer burble was heard. This exhaust note, though familiar to how it sounded before was new and a little unique. Perhaps it was because the exhaust ended after the downpipe :). One would think the engine would stay aroudn 2500-3000 rpms for a while, but no, it shot up like a spring to 4000 and stayed there! Over the hundreds of loud explosions I could hear the faint whoosh of a turbine. Something wasn't right. Why was it staying at 4k and why did I have this strange inkling that I was doing something wrong. I shut her down walked around to the front with the largest smile I believe I've ever had and noticed one of the problems. No coolant! So I filled er up, ate some dinner and came back for more :D. Trying to figure out why it was pegged at 4k I though maybe this is just a cold start dealie, so I let it run for about 10-20 seconds then tapped the throttle. Thinking it would bring the idle back down to reasonable levels was a mistake :) It shot up another grand bringing it to 5k, but wait it was still increasing! Turning the key off I decided something must be amiss. After careful examination of the engine bay I noticed the throttle cables were to put it plainly, misaligned. The cruise cable was barely in the bracket and holding the accellerator cable open. This explained the high rpms. Now that everything was kosher I decided to start it up again and let it get warm. Poured in some fuel, sucked in some air, and added a little spark and there she went. Idling right around 3000 rpms After about 10-20 seconds of listening to explosions that were louder than a plumber farting, I began to hear a very disturbing sound. The sound of fluid dripping onto the ground. I shut her off, whiped out the jack-off flashlight, and began perusing the engine bay yet again. Then I saw it, green liquid, coolant! Coming from the hose that connects the water pump to the expansion tank. Apparently some jerk forgot to put a clamp on there. I'm pretty sure it wasn't me though, I would never do something like that . So after that I decided, it would be best not to run her anymore. Took the key out and locked the garage for the evening.

The moral of this story is, Sooby has a turbo now :D

Yea dude, damn, thats killer :).

Congratulations on getting it all running again :) Just wait till you can drive it.

I had to immediately pull over and stop for a minute the first time I hit 16psi with the 16g. I literally started giggling like a little girl. It's a "woah woah woah holy shit!" feeling. Very fun.
