mismatched halfshafts!? What's up with my #@!$ wagon?

Post by gustavohuber »

So.. I just now noticed the the halfshafts I put on a while ago are mismatched.. one (front passenger) is one of the THICK FWD ones, and the front driver side is one of the machined-down AWD ones.. are there any problems with this setup? Could this be related to my weird whining-while-turning-and-starting noise? I can't believe I hadn't noticed it until just now when I went to go check my transaxle fluid (overfull and thin-feeling).. ack!

I don't think it would cause your noise. Functionally the thin and thick axles should be pretty much the same. I know subyluvr2212 was (or has been) driving around on one FWD and one AWD axle for quite some time.

hmm i had this one for awhile as well. but when i went to change the skinny one to the bigger one, soon, things started to happen as well. it sounds really bad today. a weird clicking noise when going straight forward.
