How much power can a stock NA produce when boosted?

Post by douglas vincent »

And what is going to fail?

So assuming you upgrade basics being fuel and engine management, plus of course intercooler, at what point would this block fail? Or would it?

At a balls out example, could you run 110 octane fuel at 20 psi with proper management on an NA? Cause this would make crazy power due to the high compression.

Basically, what is the weak point in high boost high compression engines?

Of course I ask this question with personal interest in mind, as I try again to get the boost on my NA from 7 psi to 10+.

you should look into water injection.

I doubt the block would fail unless you were pushing crazy numbers out of it. The weak point has got to be engine management, because of quickly a high boost high comp. engine can grenade if it doesnt have enough fuel. As long as you keep those EGTs down a boosted NA should be alright and make some nice numbers.

My money is that the fuel requirements are going to be the limiting factor.

yeah 2.2, 9.5:1 compression, and 10 psi, on 309cc injectors? That's just not going to work.

Does someone have a link to the thread where a guy was trying to test the limitations of what an EJ22 block could handle? IIRC, he was hitting like 11k rpms before he sustained any appreciable damage and when he did it wasn't neccessarily a critical engine failure... IIRC.
Anyway, it was a hella interesting thread and I know the guy was legit -someone has to know what I'm talking about.

running 11k rpm without busting something, is entirely different than making meaningful power at higher rpm. your hydraulic valves become useless above 7k so no use in trying to run faster

I assume your limitation, should you find adequate injectors, pistons suitable for high boost, and management, would be flexing of the block such that you couldn't keep head gaskets on it

Already has. Then I changed it back to 7 (which rises to 9 psi at 6000 rpm). And still running. And running swell.

Why you always dis my injectors?

I didn't mean it wasn't going to run or anything, maybe I should've said it's not going to work as well as it could.

I'm not dissing your injectors. But they aren't flowing 370cc/min. You should see if you can get some turbo injectors if you want 370cc/min, or get some 440cc/min nissan injectors as that would flow close to 370cc/min at the fuel pressure you're using. This is assuming that is how much fuel you need.

I am 40 psi off boost and 50 psi on boost.

And those are some scary looking rusty injectors!

Head studs could potentially seperate when you approach that boost.

Unless everything in that aspect is the same as the turbo motor.

id think that the things holding the motor together would be the weak point. this because i was reading that axiss (i think) was blowing their blocks apart when on high boost.
