WRX transmission conversion complete

Post by DeusExMachina »

We finished up my transmission conversion tonight. Before Phil chimes in, I know a swap to a WRX tranny is a 'downgrade' but its a lot easier to source a transmission and a lot easier to find/fit better gears into. The swap is pretty easy, major things:

(this is for a '91, YMMV)
- WRX gearbox
- Legacy Turbo driveshaft
- WRX rear diff
- WRX SEDAN (wagon does not fit, too short) rear axles
- Legacy Turbo front axles

Swap the linkage from the legacy over to the WRX tranny and you should be all set. Just need to helicoil a stud into the tranny for the starter, thats it. Pretty easy. Shifts NICE for once. The Legacy tranny will be rebuilt for experience then the WRX tranny will get RA gears. :)

Ask Phil, he was yelling at me for it awhile ago.

He says its weaker, has worse ratios, the rear diff is worse, etc.
