Ok, two possible options, I'm assuming they'll both be a bitch to find since I haven't been able to at all.

1. GC coupe/sedan, OBD1, 5MT, AWD. 93-95?

2. BD/BG OBD1, 5MT, AWD. just 95?

Maybe I'm just TOO picky :?

There weren't any OBD-I BD/BG models sold in North America.

Dang. I really like that body style too... So much for an easy turbo swap.

Why is a turbo swap much easier on an OBD-I car?

The harness on the 95 up legacies and na imprezas don't have the engine harness combined into the main harness. They go into the firewall and the layout is different.

well, it's not the bolt in, swap 2 wires and ecu that the ej22 ->ej22t or the ej22 -> ej20g job is.

Oh. Neither is it that way for any car that doesn't use the same basic ECU design as ours, right?

Why not get an OBD2 car and do a WRX swap?

I *think* (and i generally ignore swap stuff) that all turbo stuff through '98 and na stuff through 94 (93 for impreza) had the contained harness and it all makes for easy swapping, 1 or 2 wires and an ecu that plugs in. Then after that they went to a inside/outside engine compartment that complicates a swap.

obdi complicates things, as the obdi2 cars dont share the ecu design, of course, and at least in CA, you can't run a obdi2 engine on obdi1 controls.

I guess really it only makes going to ej22t harder, as theres plenty of obdi2 turboes running around

The body and engine harnesses were/are integrated, but I don't think that makes swapping easier... It makes it hard because you have to sort through all the wires and figure out what you need and what you don't. Right?

I dunno, as i said, i don't really pay attention.

I think that you don't really need to sort through because it's all pretty much the same, except for the engine control, and the slight na/turbo differences.

MM or a 20g person would know.

You need both complete harnesses out to do the electricals. Big mess. Lots of wire and connector swapping, after you unwrap lots of tape. Sportcompactcar did a write-up on it in the March '04 issue. They got their info from i-Speed who does the swap all day long. Their guy who swaps the harnesses takes 15-20 hours and he's done lots of them.:shock:

I thought about getting a wrx ej20 to put in. They can be had from nippon motors for $650. The wiring mess made me go with the ej22t.

1995 was OBD2,

You need a 93/94 GC if you want OBD1

93-94. All cars switched to OBDII in 95.
