Tranny mount

Post by rally370 »

I don't know it this has been covered before?.Anyway one of my rally friends uses Devcon Flexane 94 pouring rubber mix to make his hard engine/tranny mounts.
So I ordered some from Graingers and tried it this weekend end.
It's a two part mix.I cleaned everything and roughed up the surface.then used some duct tape to make a bottom to the mount(sitting on it's side and I left the old rubber in) and left enough room for the mix to flow.Mixed it and poured it in.Ok I did miss a few places and the stuff weeped out a bit.It sets in about 15mins.
After that you have to leave for a week to set .
So I'll put it on next weekend and let you know.
Stuff cost $26

Cheers

That's cool... There was a thread earlier where Josh tried to do the same for his 4EAT mount, but it didn't work out... I think he was using an air-curing polyurethane (as opposed to a two-part casting compound) and filled it too thick or something, so it never set.

Yeah, the stuff I tried earlier didn't work. I bought the two part stuff, but never gave it a shot. I've still got a brand new FWD AT mount and the epoxy sitting around.

I'm sure this stuff works as my friend has used it on his rally Sentra(rallying is a good test)without problems.
I will try to take a photo tonight.www.rimoftheworldrally.com is next month so i'll test the mount there.

Competed on Rim,so the tranny mount got a testing! It says on the box to clean everything really good and apply a primer.Me being a cheap skate, thought I'd rough everything up and clean with paint thinner(primer, that cost more??).So I poured the stuff and let it set for a week. One thing I did was leave the original mounts in place and just filled the holes.
I fitted the mount and went for a test.A little more vibration and now the gear stick does not dance up and down, gear shift seems a little better.
So after Rim ,I see the new moulding have parted with the metal frame(primer needed??) but still there as it's stuck in the holes. So it's the best of both worlds,Some movement but not that much.
So I would say cutting out the old mount and using toatly the moulding stuff would result in the mount collasping,I not sure if the primer would help though.
Anyway it's still way better than before and that's what matters.

Cheers
