very high idle

Post by Flip_x »

my car is idling at 2k right now if i rev it to say like 4k it will stay there and slowly drop to 2k. it wasnt like that earlier then it just did it. what could be wrong. what would make it stuck at that rpm? its annoying me. thank you

IAC.

It seems there are a lot of IAC related issues lately.

Do you ever get fuel cut?

i was reading in the other threads that the tps can get wet when it rains. it rained here for the past few days. u think it may have messed up the tps? the revs go back down but takes a while.

check and see if any codes are stored. Also try resetting the ECU after you have checked for codes.

Did it happens all of a sudden? Did you change or do anything in between the point it idled fine, and now?

The IAC is the Idle Air Control valve. When it's cycle is disturbed, it will remain open and cause higher than normal idle, exactly what it would be like if the throttle stuck.

I don't have a diverter under the hood scoop, and I've yet to have an issue with rain and the TPS.

dollars to donuts, hooking up the VRG Scantool, you'll see your IAC duty cycle be all jacked up.

I've also run with no hood scoop diverter (and a WRX hood scoop) for while now, no IAC or TPS problems here [knock on wood]. And I'm in a relatively rainy area. [/knock on wood]

I had the hood scoop diverter and chimney removed as soon as i got the car, driven through car washes and really heavy rains and haven't had a problem.
