What about OTHER oem type BOVs?
I guess the only real problem w/ our bov's is the dont pass fast enough. I understand that some mitsubishi bovs are a good choice. but what about something else like say a diesel ford f250 for example. It seems that a bov w/ bigger outlets would work, like something w/ a bigger turbo.
What about the WRX/Sti bov?
Am I missing something?

um, wait till yours fails to pass enough before you go and start fiddleing with it. then when you have problems get a aftermarket recirculating. cheaper and easier than fitting stock type bov's

Diesels don't have BOV's.
You stock one will be ok for now. I don't think the WRX one is any better than ours, maybe a little bigger. When you set up a IC I guess you could get the WRX BOV flange in there. That way when you want or need an aftermarket BOV it will bolt up. Still seems like a lot of work when you can get all the aftermarket BOV's with a simple hose inlet.

I already have a saab ic installed. and I'm not particularly happy w/ my BOV hose so I'm monkeying w/ it.
All the aftermarket bov's I saw were not cheap. So it doesnt sound like theres not a good reason to try one out of say a chrysler or anything else I find at the junkyard.

A 1st Gen DSM, or an EVO BOV would be really cool. They are metal and can be crushed to hold some mad boost.
I was talking to an evo owner friend of mine (who made 303 to the wheels on pump gas, and ran a 12.4 or something rediculous with some fried syncros), and he was saying that he just crushed it and used a vacuum gauge to make sure it still opened at around 18 in-hg of vacuum. Just used a bench vice and squeezed.
I went aftermarket, which seems to be working OK for me. I enjoy it, but I definately would love to install the WRX intercooler, since the BOV is on the intercooler itself instead of between the intercooler and the turbo. I'll swap to a Greddy Type S BOV and recirculate it after I do that. The HKS is loud, and stands out like a sore thumb. Turns a fucking SHIT load of heads though.

I'm guessing you could crush the WRX one as well. I have also heard of this practice and it seems to work OK.
How much boost do you plan on running? I'm sure the stock BOV will hold what you can run out of the stock turbo.
Don't take this the wrong way man, I'm all about Cheap Ass Racing.
I have an expensive aftermarket BOV (GFB Stealth) and it works great. It's not at all too loud and is very clean.

yeah you can adjust teh wrx ones. i was using one but it was worse than the stock one.
look on ebay for txs knock off h34 valves or other clamp on style recirc valves. they work great and arent expensive.

I'm actually curious on how one would plumb one into the stock, or "modded" piping if it's got that gigantic flange for the WRX IC.
I've looked for 50/50 BOV's but they all have that triangular flange and I don't think that'd connect very well
any visual aids on this?

I cut the big flange off and attached to the pipe it was attached to. I regret it now, since I will be going with a WRX intercooler soon. I'll just recirc a Greddy Type-S instead.

ok so I looked at a bunch of different stock BOV's most use a flange dealy and confirmed diesels dont have em. But I could prolly find a good deal on a WRX take off. Then just make an aluminum plate adapter to 3/4 tube, no cutting up bling bling BOV's, no booty fab.
If I find a BOV cheap and make one up would anyone else be interested? They would be sweet, my neighbor has a metal fabrication shop at Infineon Raceway

the MR2 bov looks pretty darn good, its big. I can make an adapter but there are 2 xtra lines.1 goes to intake, vacuum keeps the mr2 bov closed, the other line I'm not sure about yet.
And this may be interesting, Talking to a guy buildng a supra, he says the supra guys like the saab 900 bovs. I'll snag one next time I'm at pick n pull.

I checked out the saab 900 bov, should work EASY! it does not use a flange and should connect right up to our lines.
the hose connectors are at a 90.
It even Whistles!
I'm gonna try 1, theyre like $25 on ebay

heres what I have come up w/
donors= saab 900, saab 9000t, volvo 7xx, porsche 933, talon
saabs, volvo and porsche all use bosch CBV's (compressor bypass valve)
pn# #0 280 142 102, 103 (saab 900), 104, 105, 108 (porsche), 110 (high pressure, saab 9000t).
the porsche valve is supposed to be nice and crisp blow off, no info on the saab 9000t yet. I'm assuming the higher the last 2 digits the stronger the spring.
the bosch valves are good to about 16g
the porsche dealer pn #993.110.337.50
saab dealer 9000t pn #4441895
then the 90-95 mitsubishi talon
Mitsubishi PN- MR188465 OR Eagle PN- MD160689

I have been using the Saab 9000T one for about 3 years know, and they seem to break all the time.
You cannot have more the 14psi of boost if youre going with a Bosch BOV.
I think I have broken about 20 of those Bosch.

sure it would work, its a copy of the bosch 108 for porsche. but frankly for $75 the whole idea of using other oem bypass valve is moot. I will prolly use an TurboXS type H RFL and recirc it.
