Does anyone know which wires are what for the headlights on the prefacelift? There are three wires - power to low beam, power to high beam, and common ground. If someone knows for sure it would save me a little time tomorrow. I'm wondering if I should just ground directly to chassis instead of using the supplied ground.

You can double-check it, but I believe the colors in this diagram (which shows an example of upgrading the harness) are correct for both pre- and post-facelifts:

The stock wiring uses a switched ground, so you can't just put your own ground in. But if you do ever need to run a ground, don't do it to the chassis if you can avoid it. You may as well do the job right and ground directly to the engine block.
You're gonna make a heavy-duty wiring harness, right?

I've put too much work in to bother with upgrade wiring. This was the dumbest thing I've ever done. I could've swapped 15 engines in half the time and aggravatiomn this thing has cost me. I swear I've lost 10 years off my life with this project and If I didn't ruin my headlight brackets I'd ditch the whole job and go back to stock.
I can't read pdf files, but thanks. Fucking worthless computer can't download acrobat without taking a half hour to tell me there was an error and to try again later.

I don't follow your logic Steve. This may be one of the best things you've done. Seeing easily and well at night is a good thing. You should use heavier wires, it only makes sense.

I've wasted enough time and money on this. At this point all I give a shit about is that it's legal. I threw away easily over 100 hours trying to get these set up nice and in the end I have to just hack the covers with a hole saw like some shadetree mechanic. And that doesn't happen until I can borrow a saw from work as no one seems to carry a big enough one in the stores. Oh, and I need to get two new connectors to do the high beams since Subaru reversed the wiring colors for power and ground on the passenger side (and the other one was my fault as I left the retaining clip off when I put the damn thing together so I have to cut the connector off to get that on). I should've checked it or realized that the left most wire would be ground on both sides due to the lamp being the same on both sides, but I'm pissed off, tired, hot, missing my kayak, and racing against the ever-present fucking rain here too.
So, for who wants to know: the driver's side red/blue (farthest outboard wire) is the ground for high/low and the yellow/blue (or green, whatever) is power. The Red is high power.
The passenger side is blue/white ground, yellow/blue (or green whatever) low power, and red high power.
The first nice weekend and all I did was these stupid f'n lights. I need inner tie rods and an exhaust leak patched. With the sound it's making and the look of the shitty headlights I feel like I'm driving some bad rice POS.
If someone wants to rewire it for me, they're welcome, but I've found it's usually best with old wiring to let sleeping dogs lie and I'm not buying anymore connectors or wire or whatever.
I'd say I've almost washed my hands of it but it's still not done and washing my hands won't get them perfectly clean anyway.
