My left rear strut was binding and needed to be replaced now. Since I do not have the cash available I grabbed a set from a similar car and put them on. There is the catch: my car is a 92 Legacy wagon, and the donor car is a 91 Legacy wagon. The difference in the springs (as far as I can tell) is that the 91 is tapered and the 92 is not. What I need to know is which spring is better (stronger, stiffer, better for handling/ride on my car) considering that I intend to replace all four struts with AGX when I can save up enough cash to get them. Also note that I do a lot of loaded down driving (full load os passengers, towing etc), so I will need the rear struts to be adjustable to compensate for that. That is why I'm going with the AGX instead of the GR2s. The adjustability is worth the extra $200 in price. . . So which springs will handle this load better/ 91 or 92?

They have the same spring rate, so use the ones that are the same as the rest.

I'd, personally, use non-tapered springs, so I could use STi Group N top hats.

Supposedly the spring rates are the same, yeah, but the progressiveness is probably somewhat different. No idea how different, though, or if it even matters.

The AGXes you get will be intended for 92-94 models, right?

If you use 92-94 rear struts with 90-91 rear springs, you'll end up with (I think) an increase in rear ride height of about half an inch. Would that be good for towing? I don't know anything about suspensions.

the springs are linear. There is no progressiveness to take in to account.

there are no such thing as 90-91 agx'es. Agx'es will need to be set at position 3 for stock(ish) dampening.

A taller spring would allow for more travel when loaded the same amount.

You will be hard pressed to find a stiffer spring than the stock rear.
