Bad turbo engine need info on swamp.
I have purchased a relativly low mi. ej2.2 nonturbo engine at a good price and am wondering if I can assemble as the turbo using the ej2.2t turbo engine parts. What parts are different internally besides the pistons, cams? Is the C.Ratio too high to use the non turbo pistons? anyone-thanks!

Yes. The turbo block is a closed deck design built for boost. The pistons and rods are both different. Not to mention the oil squirters for the pistons on the turbo block.Bill Schouweiler wrote:So you're saying the block has differences?LaureltheQueen wrote:the block. i'd suggest just getting the turbo engine. They're not that expensive and it will be more reliable and more able to sustain boost
You *can* run a N/A block, but it's not a good idea. You won't be able to run as much boost either because of the compression ratios begin higher.

What happened to the turbo engine? The cylinders are pretty tough. From what I've been able to tell comparing the two, the rods are the same. Pistons are definitely different and the cam grinds are a little. Heads are basically the same with the turbo having extra maching on the back right side for the turbo cooling and oil lines. If the block is junk, you could swap everything to an N/A block. You will lose the squirters which are of debateable value and the block will less stable under high boost, but in a fairly conservative application you should be fine. Just expect you'll likely go through head gaskets more often due to cylinder walking.
