ok so i put on a header on friday. i dont like to redline my car on the street so i didnt get to try it out in its entirity until today, well actualy yesterday now but whatever.
so heres the problem, now that i have them on i have lost nearly 1/2 a second on my 1/4 mile times. this is due to a few things one of which is that i dont get full boost in first aymore. instead of smacking 15psi right away it builds slowly until it hits 14. then in second it hits 15 and in third it hits 16. and this was only after i turned the boost up. when boosting under my previous settings it wouldnt even reach 15 in third gear.
im hearing a new noise too. it sounds kinda like a leak but since i dont know what a leak sounds like i cant be sure. im afraid that maybe when i hit 16psi i messed something up even though i only did it once
so is it possible that the headers may be causing this boost issue or an uppipe leak or somehting like that. also even right after the header was put in i noticed the lag go up and spool issues so im thinking of using just an uppipe. the only problem is that the uppipe is 2.25 inches id. compared to the usual aftermarket size of about 1.75 inch id. so im woried that i will encounter more or the same problems with the uppipe too.
any coments apricated.

Pre-turbo piping is to large to be effective.
Why, again, did you get rid of your cattless pre-turbo exhaust setup?

what do you mean???BAC5.2 wrote:Pre-turbo piping is to large to be effective.
also. i got rid of it in attempt to make one last bit of power before i start into em and tuning. that attempt for power was futile.
so im gonna reset my ecu and see if my boost spike goes away. if it doesnt work im gonna go to a larger uppipe and stock everything else and if it still doesnt work then im gonna go back to stock.

The piping before the turbo is simply to large in diameter to optimize flow.

Yeah. I think the reason you're not getting as much boost is because you have more tubing to fill with exhaust before it gets to the turbo. This would probably be a good thing if your engine flowed more air or something, higher revs, bigger valves, bigger ports. Am I on the right track with this?

Is there any good header/uppipe combo that is good for the turbo legacy?
The stock manifold and up-pipe I have is shot!
If I was going to get a header & uppipe I was going to get it ceramic coated as well.

Yes, there is apparently! I'll report findings when I've tested it

so stock is best and anything bigger in diamater will be no good to performance???BAC5.2 wrote:The piping before the turbo is simply to large in diameter to optimize flow.
because the uppipe ill be trying next week will be alot bigger than a cobb uppipe or txs or any other ive seen for that matter.
