mitsubishi starion TSI-R
supra turbo
rx7 turbo III
...and whoever else im forgetting
I'm thinking about the 80s cars, but its an open ended deal. Stock for stock? Best choice for a project car? Most potential? Personally, i love the supra, despite its being a fat pig. I wanna chase the SL500s down 280

I'd pick the Galant VR4 (the legacies competitor at the time) over the Starion, in terms of modding potential . . . not to mention, reliability. Lookwise, the Starquests kick ass!!
The RX-7. Hard to tune unless you REALLY are a good tuner. Those rotaries don't exactly like knock AT ALL! Love the car, though.
Supras and 300zxs can be made BALLS OUT FAST!! But don't expect your wallet to agree with you.
All in all, if money were no object, I'd pick the rx-7. Lightweight and very good power production if done right!! Plus, it's RWD!!
You dont want a supra unless you plan to spend good money on a very epxerience person setting up your headgasket situation. 7mge 7mgte leak 10 times worse than the 2.5 liter GT/RS engines.
The All-Trac's are IMPOSSIBLE to find parts for. When I was in Colorado, there was a guy who was rallyxing one. Long story short, he ended up selling it because it was too hard to find any parts for. Even harder than the Legacy Turbo

the starion has a truck engine...hahaha mitsu picked the engine and designed everything around making it not seem like that- balance shafts, 30 lb flywheel... lol 188hp, 235 tq. too funny.
rumor is that the 1g eclipse is built off a galant chassis. Doesnt that make the VR4 and the AWD eclipse pretty much the same car? they share engines. the eclipse prolly handles better too...

why does the turbo supra have only 35 more hp? did they take the base model and slap on a turbo? (no block, piston, etc modification?)

For example, no distributor, oil squirters, hot wire instead of flapper air flow.
The NA version of the engine was used in the Cressida as well.
The transmisisons are also different. The NA got the same transmission as the MKII celica supra (W58) while the Turbo got the more beefy r154.
Because of this, some of the fastest cheap supras are actually MKII supras with the MKIII turbo engine Light with alot of HP. Definatly a sleeper. I almost built one!
Remember that just like the legacy the MKIII turbo wasnt pushed hard from the factory.

oh wow.... i want it i want it i want it! that is the coolest celica of all time... and it came between the 4wd fads too (late 80s-early 90s and nowadays) Were those available in the us? What 4wd system was adapted? Pity they didnt sell like hotcakes, i would already have on in my driveway. ooohhhhhh

Don't think they sold a helluva lot of them, though I see more around than I do turbo Legacies. There's a '91 (I think) for sale near here, burgandy, great shape, but they want over $7K (with 135K mi)!! Oh, well, I read somewhere that they're a little 'dead' feeling to drive (typical Toyota, I assume).
