OK I have spent the whole day going though this engine section readin the fine points, pro's and con's etc. about what I am planning to do.
I destroyed my EJ20 shortblock at Shannonville raceway recently.
I had originally started with a 2000 USDM 2.5RS or as the rest of the world knows it, a GC8 Impreza with a 165HP N/A engine....
last year I bought a JDM 02 WRX NB engine (AVCS heads 260HP stock) and swapped it into the GC using the stock tranny and upgrading to a 12LBS flywheel and a stage 2 ACT clutch. As expected I broke the tranny (110000KMS, beat on a race track, 18PSI, you do the math) and replaced it with a gearset out of a legacy turbo. the gears are fine, but I need to replace the shortblock and can't salvage any of the blocks internal parts, however my heads and accessories are fine and will be reused.
I just purchased an Auto BC Legacy that I was going to take the 2.2L block out of but I have since changed my mind and have decided to keep it as my second car, fixing all it's problems and using it for winter duty and long trips. I commute aprox 1000KMS round trip on the weekends.
Bla Bla Bla, anyway,
I just hooked up another 2.2L shortblock and here is what I plan to do. Please fire away when you see something wrong here and feel free to give your input, especially if you have done this swap before.
I am going to strip the 2.2L and have the cyl. rebored. I want to do the minimum width possible here, hone them and put them back together with new main berrings. I want to reuse the crank and rods but replace the pistons and rings, as well as the pins with the proper CR. here is the first question I guess....
What is the proper CR I am after here since I want it to be the same as a WRX? I am thinking I need a set with the proper bore and 8.5:1 ???
Also, when i reasemble the engine, what headgasket am I looking for to use on the closed deck with the GD heads?
Two questions, searched and found some answers but unfortunatly there was some debate as to the CR and the Gasket so this is all I think I need to clear up.
I am using a stand alone computer (Hydra's Nemisis) and will worry about timing and fuel after I rebuild the engine.
Any help from you guys would be appreciated, any refrence appreciated as well.
Chris
