I want quiet!

Post by K1 »

Hi,
New to the forum here.

On a recent road trip with the wife; I got really annoyed with the tire I now have. It was incredibly noisey for a large majority of I-5 thru Oregon. I am currently using Nitto Extreme 450 (I think) 215/45*17 for my Bortex wheels.

Any suggestion for a replace: 215/50*17 tires????? notice the taller aspect ratio. I'm certain this ratio will fit just fine.
I live in rainy enviroment but really enjoy the occasional flogging down twisty roads so good traction is a must........However noise is an important factor I am willing to scarifice some traction for.

Any suggestion much appreciated.

Cheers.

Oh this is for a stock 04'Legacy GT Wagon and the tires have alot of tread life @ 20K mi

Get goodyear eagle GS-D3's. They perform excellent in wet weather, as well as dry.

They're probably not the most quiet tire, but they are going to be quite a bit better then the nittos. I had the nitto 555's. They were noisey & sucked! The GS-D3's were leaps and bounds above them. Quieter, and much better grip.

I'd suggest going with the size 215/45 R17. It will more closely match your original rolling diameter of 205/55 R16.

Tire rack has the GS-D3's in that size for $133 a tire.

I'd say the only downside is that they're not going to last 40k miles. You should get at least 20k, but probably around 30k out of them. I've got just around 20k on mine, and they'll probably last another 5k or so.

I reccommend 215/45/17 Pirelli P zero Nero They are HP all seasons. The RS has them and they handle the rain, snow and the occasional auto-X

thanks for your inputs.
Do you recommend a tire site that have comments & reviews for the tires you all mentioned.

Just don't wanna have buyers remorse.

I have the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S's. They are very quiet. I'd go with them if you can. They have excellent traction in the rain and decent in the snow. They are Z rated tires as well, and grip quite nice on the pavement.
