MAF SEnsor wiring?

Post by bmxpunk »

Does anybody kow the differences in the wiring for the MAF on noth the 93 Legacy SS and the 95 Impreza? They look just a hair different and wondering if I can just move some pins around.

I am also wondering if anyone had installed a WRX header tank and rerouted their cooling lines. I am about to and just wondered if there were any suggestions.

Cheers.

I rerouted my tank because there was no room for it with the new manifold.

HOLHY COW!!!!!!!!!!! That might be the coolest engine bay I have seen in a long time!!!!!

What turbo is that and what cams are you running?

I hadn't thought of putting the header tank where my AC used to be. I was thinking more over by the turbo like a REX but that is defianately an option now. Thanks.

It's extremely dirty and haphazardly thrown together.

It's a Garrett t3/t4 stage one with a custom invidia 3" downpipe and the cams were reground to a stage 1 by delta camshaft of washington.

The only difference in the wiring is that the Impreza doesn't have the blue wire for pin 5 of the sensor.

That pin is grounded internally by the Hitachi sensor and left floating by the JECS sensor. The Legacy ECU checks it to make sure you have the correct sensor installed.

The Impreza only came with the JECS sensor, so they didn't put that checking feature in.

So if the maps in the ECU for the MAF sensor can be changed to use the JECS sensor, all you would need to do is snip that wire, and the ECU would think it has the correct MAF sensor?

Yeah, but once you're tweaking the ECU's code anyway, you may as well reverse the logic that checks for the right sensor, right?

yeah, but then why even use a stock sensor?

Cuz it's cheap, it's easy to find, it's designed to work with and mount to the airbox, it has the same electrical connector, et cetera.

Do all the early 90 legacy's have the same MAF harness?

There isn't a separate MAF harness; it's integrated with the rest of the harness. But I do believe they all have the same connector and have all 5 pins hooked up.
