Engine Shampoo?

Post by Bane »

Had a little bit of a panic yesterday after my car started smoking.
After much worry, it looks like it's an A/C leak. It's a tiny litte spot, but because the system is pressurized it's spraying this fine mist inside half the engine bay.

so 2 quick questions:

1. if the A/C is off, why is it still spraying? because i had the a/c on at one point yesterday, and it's STILL pressurized? because the vents are on?

2. This stuff (fluid circa '93) is corrosive right? right now it's all over the battery, drivers side brake and driver's side of the engine. If i take it over to Crappy Tire, after getting it fixed today, will an engine shampoo be risking even more damage?

Any recommendations for the above situation are welcome

I thought the so-called 'engine shampoo' was an internal engine cleaning. I'd just take a hose and some good cleaner to it or go to a self-car wash and use the washer on a low-power setting.

the a/c system is pressurized even when not running.

I'd clean the engine bay

I think cleaning it yourself would be just fine. I'd make shure your plug wires are good and sealed with that dielectric grease. I think that's what it's called.
