Ej22t........

Post by Penguin »

Howdy All.

The name is penguin here. I am here at work at aarons and keep hearing all this talk of the ej22t being this caged animail waiting to be released...
Now I have a Ej22t that came with my 93 Touring wag. and have tore down count less ej22s, ej20s, ej25, ea81/82, ej33, damn near all subie engines (except the newest stuff) and I know this engine is a bit beefed up form the factory, but i have heard about guys runing 20 psi and getting 300's(hp) and it is still his daily driver! this just seems... wow, and i believe this was with non-major work to the top of the engine.
I ask this cause cause i am wanting to do something with my little girl.
I was planing on doing a ej33 swap (230hp sounds nice to start) but if i can get that or more with want i got then i am not gunna do threw all the hassel if figuring out where to put my radiator. and I would like to avoid getting yelled at at WCSS8 by that girl who said my car would be a bastartd if I put the 3.3 in it

Now i know this question has probly been asked to death...
But hey I am new the bbs...
so all replys are thanked

Big thing you need is engine management, larger turbo, & injectors, and different MAF sensor.

The corresponding parts like exhaust intake etc, all help.

So I guess my real question is...

Is there anybody here doing this, or who knows somebody who is or knows this guys who has this friend, but you are sure that they did it.
I have a EJ33 sitting around, it weighs a bit more (maybe 2 bits) then my 22t now i can figure out how to get that beast into my engine bay and save this (22t) engine incase I blow up the 33 w/nos OR I have another ej22t block laying around and can do some tuning to my current (ie do upgrades and kick the boost waaay up) and incase i blow that engine i will have that other block.

i can't do both (the boss won't let me)
I would like to hear what you all think

to answer
AAron was the son of the first owner they used his name to be first in the phone book and if that didn't answer your question you probably have never looked for subie parts on the west coast....
"subaru is all we do"
and
"that" girl is the woman who very kindly greated me at WCSS7 as soon as I steped out of my car with a "give me a high five for that wagon!" she was cool said she had one too.

was her wagon silver?????

either way tho like josh said you need em injectors and a larger turbo. your motor as is is good for about 300 but your heads will be killing your abilty to gain power. so either replace or cam them.

oh and btw, ive looked everywhere for subaru parts and still dont know who aaron is.

its a wrecking yard in washington state. aaron's auto or somethin like that. but yea its possible to do all that. i have a 2.2t shortblock waiting for me to slap on the dohc ej20g JDM heads on it. but im not gonna do that until im done messin with the ej20g shortblock hybrid.

but like they said, larger turbo, injectors, and engine management will get you there.

I know and have seen cars that are running 25-27 psi all day long pushing the upper 300's but like everbody said you have to get bigger stuff. My advice is to find a wrecked 2.5 N/A or turbo does not matter and strip it raw. With the bottomk and top end and bigger turbo and e-manage and etc. you will be in the mid to low 300's. The cars I see around here are actually wrx's with our blocks. That alone should tell you somthing.

so does anybody here know how to get oil to feed out of these 2.5 NA heads i am looking at a the pass. side one and see that it wil take some real work to make this head work(ie adding and oil pump and drilling).....

So do i really need 2.5 turbo heads? or am i just stupid and not seeing something here

I pretty much have almost every subie part at my finger tips (except the newest stuff) We are doing a forster STI right now, it already runs, drives and  it goes . So please Guys and Girls only tell me to do stuff if you know it is not a dead end. I am trying to be like a sponge, there is a bunch of info here and it is hard to tell what is truth and what is bunk.

Thanks again all

i think you should get turbo heads. maybe from a WRX if you want it to be easier and cheaper. they are dohc and should run pretty good i believe.

I think for an oil feed you may just be better off using the plug on the block -- there's a blank plug you can replace with an adapter that has internal pipe threads. Search here and on NASIOC to see how people usually plumb in oil pressure gauges, and do the same.

Talk to Kelley with Perfection MotorSports. He was outrunning his STI with a vf23, different ecu, and exhaust. I believe he might have had larger injectors, but that may not be. He did have stock heads.

so i riped out a pair of 2.5n/a dohc heads off of a 99 leg outback, and boy was it fun seemed like everybolt wanted to strip(and i was using snapon!) i mean every bolt! form control arm bolts to the tranny bolts... finally i just cut the f***ing front end off the car, hooked up the chains to the forklift and threw it in reverse!... and pop out comes the engine/trans, only broke the back of the tranny off. But hey i only wanted the heads...
so i am gunna port and polish them this weekend. I have decided not to worrie that no oils coming from the heads for the turbo, i am gunna run a seprate oil system for my turbo and then full synth.

so as of now
2 ej22t's
1 will stay stock incase i blow up the fun one ( ie no down time, well 2 hours for the engine swap)
new ej22t block (only 69,000miles) for the fun
boost control
perfect power piggy ecu
light weight pully
2.5 n/a dohc heads intake ect
550 cfm injectors
2.2 n/a fuel rails....

and the list is growing...
