shifting sound

Post by anthonyle2002 »

hello. i was driving home today and once i was in my garage i shifted from Drive to neutral to reverse then to park. right as i shifted into a gear i heard a sort of clicking or poping sound coming from somewhere behind the glove compartment. its not the usual sound you get when you step on the brake to shift from park. i did this sound when i shifted from park all the down to drive but not when i went from drive down to 3 2 or 1. it didn't do it when i went from 1 2 3 to drive but it did it from drive to neutral and again to reverse and again to park.

i turned my car off then back on and tried it again and it didn't do it again. anyone know whats going on? thanks

Check your ATF oil level on a level surface. SOunds like the noise I experienced. After I changed the tranny fluid and didnt put enough in. I added a quart or two more. If not there can you hear it in the engine bay or definitely inside the car?

It's probably the shift interlock system. It's normal to hear a click going from park into gear.

Other thing it might be is tthe spring inside pushing on the lever so you can't move the gear selector into gear without pushing in the button.

Where you holding in the button when you were doing this?

Anyway, it sounds like everything's fine.
